Not sure anyone mashes on their mouth guard more than Makar lol

Girard+ for Scheifele+ is a trade I really think could happen this summer. Both guys fill needs for the other team. Jets need a top tier PMD IMO, and I think that while they have been hoping Heinola would be that guy, he hasn't show to be that yet. Avs get a 2C at a reasonable cap hit for 2 more cup runs.

Something like Girard + Compher for Scheifele + DeMelo would be fair for both teams IMO. Cap wise it would nearly be a wash for both teams as well... I believe the Avs would add 625k in cap space.

Perhaps picks or prospects need to be added to balance the trade out, but I dont think it would take much. As a basis I think it'd be quite fair value honestly.
I don’t see that happening. I don’t mind Scheifele but doubt Peg does this trade unless they are going full rebuild mode.

I heard both Sakic and MacFarland were at the Pio's game last night.

Wonder if they might be trying to gauge Behrens readiness to turn pro next year, for a potential Girard trade for a 2C? Similar to how they wanted to bring Makar in for the playoffs, to help gauge whether they could move Barrie for a 2C?

Seems like next year might be a year early for Behrens, but Sakic was very complimentary of him and his all around game last week. Maybe they think he could be ready at 19 like Girard was ready at 19? Perhaps to start in the AHL if need be, but could be worked into the NHL lineup towards the end of the regular season?

I'm struggling a bit to think of why else both of the top Av brass needed to watch him live, instead of sending a scout, and/or just watching him from the comfort of their own home. Maybe just to meet with him and touch base, but both Joe and CMac seem like overkill for that.
Well after this TDL he is our only D prospect left so they might be trying to gauge where he is. Could also be looking at senior players soon to be free agents?

I wonder if we could get a small asset for Kadri’s rights before July 1st? Some GM desperately looking for a center might give a draft pick for the rights to negotiate early.

My way too early off-season. I think this actually leaves the Avs with 2 million left in cap space.

Resignings:

Nichushkin: $5.3M X 6
Kuemper: $5.5M X 5
Lekhonen: $3.5M X 5
Manson: $3.5M X 3
Sturm: $2M X 1
Cogliano: $900K X 1
Jack Johnson $1M X 1

FA signings:

Ilya Mikheyev: $3.5M X 3
Alex Goligoski: $2.8M X 2

Trades:

To Columbus: Girard
To Colorado: Texier, 2023 4th round pick

To Detroit: EJ
To Colorado: 7th round pick 2023

Landeskog - Mack - Rantanen
Nichushkin - Newhook - Mikheyev
Lekhonen - Texier - Compher
Cogliano - Sturm - LOC
Maltsev

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
JJ - Goligoski
MacDonald

Kuemper
Francouz

Nichuskin isn't too far off hope he can come in right around $5M (at any term) and hope that along with Kuemper is a priority, I like $5.5M for him as well hopefully at 4 year term but that might be unrealistic. It is clear Lehkonen is going to be in the plans for next year I can see anywhere from $3-3.5M. I hope we can get Manson for that term and AAV, I don't hate his game as much as some do on here and we need a RHD and don't have any left in the pipeline. Don't think Sturm will cost that much based on his numbers. Probably too early to know if Cogliano would be a good fit but he is older and we have younger players that could slot there. I could see Jack Johnson especially if they move Girard, he's fit better than I thought and works as a #6-7 D. Mikheyev is interesting, hope we get more for Girard though. I hope they ease up some cap space with Johnson and/or Compher but they might let them play to the end of their contracts unfortunately. Newhook isn't ready for 2C if he will ever be, I like splitting up the top line and preparing for a tighter cap situation.

Wasn't OTT reported to be very interested in signing Kadri next season?

Have to wait and see, but I think especially if they miss playoffs, they will be busy this summer and by a few different reports, Scheifele is one guy they may very well trade.

The article written by the Jets writer for The Athletic suggests they could move him if they decide the team wants to move in a different direction. One where PLD is the 1C moving forward.

Potentially could yup. Rangers gave up a 7th for Goodrow last summer and the Avs themselves moved a 6th for Soderbergs rights a while back.

Would be a smart move honestly. If they aren't going to re-sign him(And they shouldn't), send him off for a 5th or 6th rounder to at least recoup some of the draft picks we gave up over the last 12 months.

Likewise with Burakovsky.

I wonder if Joe tries to sign an NCAA FA netminder here in the next few weeks?
Magnus Chrona is a junior this year. Not sure how highly the Lightning value him? We have got to start taking swings at goalies. We have had the worst luck developing them. Either that or our amateur scouting of them sucks.

Hmm. Maybe they are considering moving on from him.

I wonder if they're trying to figure out whether or not he's leaning towards another year of college or if he'll be willing to sign in Colorado.

If Helleson reportedly wasn't going to sign, I'm sure Sakic doesn't want another guy giving him the cold shoulder like that.

Could be something like that. Trying to make sure he doesn't sneak off to Chicago or something.

Why would sleepy Joe pay so much for Kuemper just to let him go after this season unless he shits the bed during the post season? That sounds like asset mismanagement to the highest degree. What’s he gonna do, pay another 1st for Gibson? Start Francouz?

I’m curious what happens with Malkin? He has one year left on his deal and he is 35 years old. Will The Penguins re-sign him or finally move on and rebuild? Will he try for a big multi year deal or play year to year and try to win somewhere else? Doubt we could afford him but I’m curious where he goes if he becomes a free agent. Doubt he would go to a bottom feeder team just to finish off his career. Maybe he goes to Russia?

That depends. Does he not like locking up goalies to long term deals? Did he just lose faith in Grubauer? He certainly didn’t want to re-up Varly when his contract was up.

Man I hope not. I speculated that Helleson might not want to sign here for the same reasons he chose not to but these guys have to see that EJ is almost gone. We probably can’t re-sign Toews when he is up and Girard and Byram’s futures are uncertain at this point. The only certainty on D is that the Avs will do anything to try and keep Cale Makar here long term.

If Kuemper walks my guess would be a trade for Driedger. Quite a risky one given his small sample size in Florida and poor season with Seattle, but he did at least show that he can play well enough behind a good team in Florida, and his $3.5m x 2 year contract is right in Sakic's sweet spot for a starting goalie (Grubauer $3.33m X 3 and Kuemper $3.5m x1).
