He's more PMD rather than a shutdown type though is what I was implying.Pretty sure Fowler is like 6'2"

He'll make money going that route, but he'll never win anything. Nate needs to look in the mirror and recognize he may never get back to the Finals. He'll be an UFA in a year, so yes he will have a choice.
IMO if you can make a trade for John Gibson the 2C position becomes less important to fill immediately. He can propel the team with his level of play. Those might be doable, and probably.worth it, but the question is how do you then solve the 2C issue after trading those assets for a goalie?
Assuming Nichuskin and Lehkonen are retained with term our top of the lineup would be looking good for a few years, except for a 2C (and maybe 2RHD if Girard is moved). I'd have confidence in the pro scouts continuing to find guys who can fill out the bottom 6 chraply (eg. Nieto, Comeau, NAK, Helm, Cogliano, Sturm, Meyers, etc), but that 2C spot would be crucial albeit hard to fill after an expensive Gibson trade.
Landeskog - Mackinnon - Nichuskin
Lehkonen ------- 2C ------ Rantanen
Toews - Makar
Byram - Girard
Gibson

I don’t think his chances of winning a cup are that much lower if he goes to UFA as opposed to staying here. He'll make money going that route, but he'll never win anything. Nate needs to look in the mirror and recognize he may never get back to the Finals.
Potentially.IMO if you can make a trade for John Gibson the 2C position becomes less important to fill immediately. He can propel the team with his level of play.
Landeskog, Rantanen, Nichushkin. Norris Trophy winner Cale Makar. Where can he land that will put him with this much talent?I don’t think his chances of winning a cup are that much lower if he goes to UFA as opposed to staying here.
This is Elliotte Friedman speaking on The Jeff Marek Show
No flipping way Kuemper gets more than $6M AAV. My God.
So is Markstrom, Grubauer, Binnington... soon to be Kuemper and Campbell.Kuemper anywhere close to 6M is laughable
Not saying this isn’t a special group. But there’s been a lot of very talented teams that have only gotten to 1 SCF or even none. Getting to cup final is really really hard, so who knows if the Avs get here again. I think the chances are higher here than the average team.Landeskog, Rantanen, Nichushkin. Norris Trophy winner Cale Makar. Where can he land that will put him with this much talent?
Could it happen? Certainly. But I've been around long enough in my life, and watching hockey and other sports, to recognize when a special group of talented people comes together that it is a unique and rare opportunity. All I am saying is Nate is part of such an opportunity, and he is part of a collection of talent that doesn't come around often.
So is Markstrom, Grubauer, Binnington... soon to be Kuemper and Campbell.
He’ll be close. Any guy that’s a starter will get at least 5.5+.Kuemper anywhere close to 6M is laughable
I think most everyone expects him and Letang to leave.Malkin heading to UFA? ...
Avs going to get Malkin, Bergeron and Letang this summer as a pre-emptive move to entice Crosby to demand a trade here.to COL![]()
Sounds like a perfect plan.Avs going to get Malkin, Bergeron and Letang this summer as a pre-emptive move to entice Crosby to demand a trade here.

Why not? If he does leave Pittsburgh and wants another cup there are worse places to go than Colorado.
I could see MacKinnon taking $10M instead of $12M
That'd be kind of cool honestly.Nah, Malkin goes to WSH to play with his Russian buddy Ovi, especially if Backstrom's hip surgery and rehab doesn't go well, which is a very good posibility.
