Not that I care but it is funny to see a guy rewarded as a Jack Adams finalist for finishing with 120 points, but the coach that got to 118 and 2nd in the league isn't top-3 in voting. Gotta think longevity hurts Bednar there for some reason.

Recency bias is a thing. The voters just love the shiny new toy, especially if they can craft a narrative around it, like Bruno having to take over in such "trying circumstances." Pfffffft...dude got handed one of the most talented and deepest rosters in the entire league, with an extremely solid goalie tandem, and all he had to do was follow the blueprint already put in place by his predecessor. Literally the easiest job in the league. Now that he's actually having to make changes to that blueprint, he's faceplanting hard.

Don't get me wrong, I figure Bruno is a good guy and may one day be a good head coach, but right now he's just an interim guy riding his predecessor's coattails.

The GM has done well getting out of some horrendous countracts.

Well it's hard to say how good of a job Bednar is doing when he's the only one who has coached this core. Maybe we'd be triple champs with a better coach, or maybe we'd do worse.

smart thing to do would have been to trade bura last summer, recoup assets, and use his money to sign saad who can actually translate to playoff hockey. Now we will lose bura for nothing (which is still a better option than signing him)

Pure hindsight - easy to say that now. Last summer, Kadri was coming off an underwhelming season too. He might have been the guy instead. But you also have to remember how the expansion draft complicated things last summer and protecting players effectively made teams commit roster spots to them.
 
Burakovsky's probably losing a decent chunk of change by being healthy scratched in the playoffs. Not the best look for a pending UFA.

Also probably makes it pretty clear he likely won't be in the Avs plans moving forward. Newhook could very well be his direct replacement at 2RW next season.

Lehkonen will be the 2RW though won’t he? I think 2C will be the major hole we will need to fill (my bet is Trochek). Assuming we re-sign Nuke and sign Lehkonen we essentially have:

9296
Nuke-???-Lehk
Meyers-JTC-Newhook
NAK-???-LOC

With some players (Maltsev, Kaut and Bowers) likely getting there last shot with out org at the bottom 6 holes and veterans also given potential shots to fill in that 4C hole.

Yes good point. Lehkonen is looking good so its hard to not envisage him playing top 6 minutes going forward as well.

Kaut doesn't fit Bednars style. He's most likely traded or waiver claimed unless Bednar gets canned for whatever reason.

Bowers probably doesn't have a future in Colorado either.

But wasn't Kaut drafted by Sakic when Bednar was HC? Kaut has developed some nice offensive consistency with the Eagles this season. I'm hoping he's not just discarded due to "style". I won't say anything about Kaut if he doesn't make the team out of training camp next season. Late bloomer I hope.
 
Wanted to keep Sturm next year but him getting healthy scratched doesn't look good.

Having both Nuke and Lehk in the top 6 is great on one side but risky on the other...neither guy can rely on talent to get it going. If we keep both IMO we'll need a 2C who can produce on his own, like Kadri.

Their blueline is bad and they don't even have a backup goalie. Most overated team going .

Caps had them beat and choked it away .

Kadri showed yesterday that he needs to stay. and he will be reasonable to do it and get a few more cups.

I’m loving Kadri this year but I just don’t see it. Let’s just hope he keeps up his play, and just let him go this summer.
If he gets to sign an 8~9 million contract somewhere and we win the cup with him, that’s the best case Win-win scenario all around.

Exactly. He probably wants to cash in after his small contract. Can't blame him. He was underpaid for years.
