Off-topic but I’m giving you a +1…. I’d give more if I could. What you said is so overlooked in the fitness industry. I can train abs 10 hours a day and still look like crap if I’m consuming 5,000 calories worth of junk.

Whats that old saying? You can’t out-train a bad diet?

And yeah, on the flip side, walking around at 5% body fat all year isn’t healthy either as it would mean you’re constantly going on a calorie deficit and sacrificing a lot in your diet. It’ll also mess around with hormones and how you generally feel.

I didn’t go back far enough about how this conversation started but if it has to do with Slaf’s weight, he’ll be fine. He’ll probably drop 8-12lbs over the season as most players do. Hockey players don’t need to be shredded and I’d argue they‘re better off with more body fat (athletic norms). I know they won’t really tap into that since practices and games don’t last long enough to burn fat, but not being shredded means they’re eating enough calories to at least stay at maintenance.
People would be amazed how much weight fluctuates for football players during a game. There's a lot to be said about losing water weight from sweating, but still. Over a season, it's not time for weight to increase. Rather, the opposite.

Drouin has and continues to cause his own demise but he starts in Montreal. He is a key piece of a top 3 pick in 2023.
You just post in bad faith, but it seems to please you.

Nah you're not thinking long/med/short term at all. You're thinking of prospects as inanimate objects you can move freely on the board at your convenience.
You can't hand-wave the impact of an undeserved AHL assignment (sorry bro, we have too many wingers) with a smile and a pat on the back.
will see whos right i say Slaf will start in the A unless we have more injuries or trades

Playing in the AHL is a good experience for any young player. I would also start him there with top ice-time.

I agree with you but what if he's the Habs 3rd of 4th best forward in the preseason? What message does it send to Slaf and the other Habs if he's sent down no matter what? What would Caufield think for example if he has great chemistry and results with Slaf in the preseason? What would Slaf think if he's sent down and his salary is divided by 5 or 6 despite deserving a spot on the top 6?

That this isn't a meritocracy. That the management doesn't care about the team's performance. That efforts aren't rewarded. That you shouldn't bother about winning since a key player has been sent down.

I think that the AHL is the way to go unless Slaf is downright dominant but the saying "forcing management to stay in the team" exists for a reason. A team's culture is a fickle thing and easy to ruin. Buffalo shameless tanking ended up destroying the Sabres team culture in hindsight

Can also be a key piece is derailing development of our future.

A spot for Drouin is a spot a prospect should occupy.

We'll see how he adjusts next game. He is a very good back checker for an 18 year old. Broke up a few plays. The aggressive back check also forced the Devils player to make a quick play or dump in the puck.

Offensively, he didn't cycle much yesterday. When he tried it was quickly broken up. When carrying the puck in the offensive zone, he was a little slow to make some plays and the defenders quickly separated the puck from his stick.

It's all a learning experience. The important thing is to see how he adjusts in the next few games.

A certain poster said I was wrong that Slafkovsky needs to work on core and leg strength, and that he’s already a physical monster. He didn’t successfully cycle the puck at all last night (he did win a lot of stick battles though). He also didn’t protect the puck with his body and lean to beat defenders. So while maybe he’s already strong, he didn’t show it last night. I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that noticed.

You can tell that cycling is not instinctual for him. He much prefers to make plays off the rush, or to carry the puck below the circles to beat defenders and make a pass.

How quickly he adapts his game will give us a sense of his hockey IQ. What's important moving forward is how he adjusts his game.

Slaf doesn't look NHL ready. He's not as strong as advertised and doesn't play like Jagr. He's going to be a good piece but let's not fool ourselves into thinking 31 other teams would have made the same pick or that Slaf goes first in any draft of the past 20 years.

He needs time and that's ok even for a first overall pick. Most of the past ten years haven't jumped into key positions immediately.

Really hope he doesn't play much in the NHL this year. Let his ELC slide too. Nothing from camp/preseason so far shows he's ready. Might be blessing in disguise as we've already seen 18 year olds impress/look NHL ready in camp only to regress in year 2 and 3.

Really hope he stops handling the puck with head down at blue line...he's way too slow at it and is going to get destroyed.

KK was showing more at the same age. Slaf is not ready. Rookie camp/ intra-team matches and yesterday showed it. He should be going in the ahl. But Id rather seem him in the OHL. Even Roy showed nothing good yet and he should be going in the AHL.

On the other hand, Guhle and Beck showed great things.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in the AHL either. I think he has the tools but needs to sort out what works and doesn't work. Also, he needs more reps.

Him & KK, to me, are just the management team trying to go against the ebbs and flows. They prefer to believe in their assessment and are confident in their development. It makes them assess whoever they pick as BPA. From my perspective, neither should have drafted at the slot they got drafted in.

KK did not show more at the same age. I don’t remember KK creating something every single shift. He was also useless on the backcheck.

Give Juraj the first 9 games and then send him down.

Let him play for Slovakia in the WJHC next to Mesar and Nemec.

If he is developing nicely, after the TDL, if we manage to trade away a ton of vets, let him come back up and finish the year.

If he needs more work in the A, let him finish the season there and start fresh next year. No need to rush him at this point, as much as we want him to be a superstar right away, it is looking like it will take time.

Who does?

Anyone who convinced themselves that he would play like one of the greatest players this game has ever seen and who continues to play today despite being 50 years old.

Just built themselves an idea of a player that he was never destined to become.

No, he doesn't play like Jagr...he plays like Slafkovsky.

Well said. But you forgot to add that he also plays like an 18 year old.

Anyone else notice that Slaf kinda looked gased in the third? Seems he was tired after 30 seconds into his shift and was struggling each time he came back to the bench.
