GDT: 2021 World Juniors

On the bright side, they are in the top 36 hockey playing nations in the world on both the men's and women's side! That's better than Mexico, Turkmenistan and North Korea!
Thats probably almost by default by actually being in a semi cold country:laugh:. Ive always thought it would be super cool to move to one of those countries and have a couple kids that grow up playing hockey. They would have a solid chance at playing nationally.

Raska reminds me Raffi Torres with less offensive skills. He hits hard, does dirty work, sometimes he gets major penalties, suspensions and in the next game he is very aggressive again. He should learn how to hit a bit more accuracy to avoid long suspensions. We need this kind of player.

Marchment needs to take him under his wing and help refine his game

Yeah, I'm liking the sandpaper in his game, but I hope he can learn to keep it inside the lines a bit to be successful at the NHL level

Seeing how Beniers just dominates the transition game, I'm making a pre-season call that the Sharks will draft him if he's available to us. Figuring that we're probably locked in for a top 10 draft pick, this dream should be possible.

Russia resting several of their regulars today. I don't think Spiridonov or Knyazev were taken out though.

Actually, Knyazev for sure is in the lineup, he was on the ice a moment ago (#3 in white)

The fact that Gord Miller insists on saying "kuh-nigh-uh-zev" is getting distracting. I'm pretty sure the K is more or less silent.

I've pronounced his name "knee-ah-zev" in my head, but my knowledge of Russian pronunciation is essentially zero.

Speaking of Knyazev, he has quite a shot, good speed, good passes, and maybe it's from having a two-goal lead against a team that shouldn't have a chance, but he decided to play behind the Austrian net at around 12:30.

I thought the Y was supposed to make a long 'i' sound (nigh-ah-zev. Or possibly nigh-ah-zhev maybe?) but Miller's constant hard pronunciation of the "k" at the beginning as its own syllable is starting to get to me.

i plugged the cyrillic into google translate and it sounds like kin-ya-zev.

Russia giving up a goal to Austria is almost as big a deal as the Czechs outright beating them. They have their moments but they look far more beatable than the other top tier teams.

Sounds like you do say the K. Ki-Ni-Ah-Zev. Something like that.
