GDT: 2021 World Juniors

You heard him, everyone. It's all this guy's fault. Light your torches and sharpen your pitchforks if you're Swedish. :sarcasm:

Everything worked out for me. I wore my Canada jersey and they thumped the Fins.

Maybe it's just a bad night for Scandinavia?
It’s Bordeleau’s fault for not being there.

So we've got our Quarterfinals set for Saturday (The times aren't set, but I think this is how they're expected to play out):

Russia (B2) vs Germany (A3) - 9am PT/noon ET
Finland (A2) vs Sweden (B3) - 12:30pm PT/ 3:30pm ET
Canada (A1) vs Czech Republic (B4) - 4pm PT/7pm ET
USA (B1) vs Slovakia (A4) - 7:30pm PT/10:30pm ET

This is the order/schedule for today, starting right now.

Reminder if you want some more avatars to enter the wjc predictor contest in the other thread I started. The deadline for the quarterfinal predictions is puck drop on this first game, likely in the next 15 minutes.

And we're underway.

For those that are prospect-watching:

Knyazev is wearing #3 in red
Spiridonov is #18 also in red.

And for those paying attention to the play by play, Dennis Beyak is mispronouncing Knyazev as "Kuh-NISS-ee-ev"

Today he played 22:29, top-1 among Russian players. In the game before he was second on team. I wouldn’t say he is the best Russian D but he is definitely one of the best.
His transition game is far better than most of the other ones that had more icetime than him in the earlier games. He got much more time in the past two so thats a sign they did notice

Someone's really going to have to talk to Raska about these penalty-inducing hits. I like the aggressiveness but dude, you can't be going after guys in less-than-stellar positions and ending up in the box all the time.

3 out of the 4 games today were supposed to be blowouts and yet we've had 3 pretty close games. Not that I'm complaining. It's been entertaining and interesting so far.

Came here to post about Raska.

This kid really caught my eye in this tournament. Yes, he definitely needs to learn when to let up (especially in an IIHF event), however his tenacity and aggressiveness are something many players wish they had.

He's about as safe a 7th round pick as there can be. Not much offensive upside, but almost a guaranteed bottom 6 NHLer. And an effective one at that! Reminds me a lot of Leo Komarov when he first came over for the Leafs.

A buddy of mine used to tell me about hunting dogs: you can pull them back but you can't make them go. You can't teach the sort of drive Raska has, if it can be properly directed he could be a very effective bottom 6 forward.
