How are we defining that as a pitch though? Are you not allowed to step off and throw home as a non pitch unless someone is trying to steal home?

Can you step off and throw to 3rd when there's a runner on 1st?

I was wrong on my edit. Now I'm seeing that it's a balk if the pitcher makes any motion naturally associated with his pitch while he is not touching the pitchers plate. Seems like every time I think I've figured out the balk rule, I havent figured it out.

No surprise that Buck doesn't know the pickoff rule. It is illegal to throw to a base that wouldn't be involved in a pickoff attempt (also applies to catchers).

It was put in place because there was a righty who threw to third when he knew the runner was stealing from 1st.

Edit: It wasn't a throw. It was the Halladay style fake to third, throw to first, only with a runner only on first

Biggest late season series in a long damn time coming up against the Yankees. Those Bautista playoff teams were good but they were never in this tight of a race into the last week of the season. They had built up more comfortable leads by now.
 
I hope to see Lourdes back in the lineup on Tuesday. His bat has been way too hot recently to keep him out for such a big series and he's a crappy fielder anyways so DH'ing him might be beneficial to the whole team. Springer also seems ready to play in CF again so if he's ready to go, you gotta bring Gurriel back asap
