There is a Red Sox & Yankees mystique. These teams always will themselves to a win, something about those uniforms. This race will go down to the last day.

Crazy that the Red Sox are now in that category. When I was a kid the BoSox were known as the team who’d always will themselves to lose lol

oh yeah

Now let's sweep the Rays in the next two series and TAKE THE DIVISION!

...meh, I wish.

Has a division ever had 4 90 win teams? I remember a few times where there were 3 but I can't ever recall a division having that many.

The closest the AL East has ever come in 2008 when the Jays were 4th with 86 wins. They came 4th 2 years later with 85 wins as well.
I understand that, I just meant that this division is ridiculous. Most years you have 3 or 4 teams competing, some years it can 5. It's been the most competitive division in baseball for decades.

Perhaps I should have replied to the initial question instead of you. I was piggybacking off your AL East response to say it's never happened in the AL East, and thus probably hasn't happened since the AL East usually ends up the toughest.

I found the best records to miss in the WC era which went down as far as 92 wins and didn't include a team missing out as 4th in their division but that doesn't conclude that a team who has 91 or 90 didn't miss in that way.

Red Sox have a fairly easy schedule from here on out.
So do we. Other than the 6 against Tampa, we've got 7 against Minnesota, 3 against Baltimore, and 3 against the currently struggling Yankees. I think if we can split against Tampa, and win the other series out right, we're in. That would be at least 11-8 for 91 wins. That's very doable at this point.
