WJC: 2021 Team USA Roster Talk

Sounds a bit like the Leafs and/or player just saw this as good practice sessions. Did Robertson get a camp spot at the expense of someone else?

What can we do anyway? It's a foregone conclusion Canada is going to win. Why even hold the tournament?

Re-shuffling things

Boldy-Turcotte-Beniers
Kaliyev-Zegras-Caufield
Brisson-Farinacci-Brink
Berard-Slaggert-Moynihan
Colangelo

I've re-assessed the lines. I think we are going to run into a problem where we don't have a line who can play good enough defense against the opppsotiion with Kaliyev-Turcotte-Brink/Boldy-Zegras-Caufield. Thats why I'd move Boldy to Turcotte's line, and also play Beniers there. I believe those guys even played together for a game or two at the NTDP. Zegras with Caufield, as usual, but also can add Kaliyev there. That line will not play much defense, but they can be used as a pure offense line and won't have to if they have a lot of the puck.

I wasn't sure who to put with Brisson and Brink. Could be a winger with Brisson at center or a center with Brisson at wing, but I think Farinacci is probably the next best player, so he can play third line center. Bottom line isn't great. Slaggert's an okay role player, Berard is a slightly better role player. I'm not a huge fan of Moynihan. Everyone always says he's underrated, but I've never seen it, but at least he's not horrible. Colangelo can be the 13th forward. Not ideal, but there are teams with worst 13F's.

Defense and goalies remain the same.

I find it pretty incredible how we've dominated this age group historically and have the most high profile players going into this tournament, but we've shifted from favorites to underdogs.

I don't mind it. Take the pressure off of us. Our depth has no doubt been hurt a little in the last few weeks, but I still think a team with Turcotte, Knight, Zegras, Caufield, Boldy, York, Thrun, Kaliyev, Sanderson, Beniers, Brisson, Brink, Wolf is more than good enough to win it. I'd still say this is our most talented team in years, even though we have many players missing.

USA is missing 6 players that should be on the team. Doesn’t help.

Could be more to Robertson not making the USA team than we are hearing from Leaf’s Nation too.

Read an article on TSN about Robertson not getting on the team, because he thinks Leaf’s camp will start before the Gold medal game. Why wouldn’t the Leafs give the kid a chance to play in the WJC’s? It’s only a couple days.
 


What a mess. The IIHF should be ashamed of how they handle this situation. These protocols and testing rules are so amateurish...

You're saying 2 separate things here.

Anyway, if Robertson was to go to US camp, not only would he be on the team, he'd be 1st line LW.

This is almost certain a 100% player/team decision together. Robertson's goal this off season has been to make the Leafs roster. If he were to go to WJ camp, he wouldn't be available to Toronto until sometime between the 10th to 13th, and as we know now, regular season starts on the 13th.
