I am late for the convo this year but put me down for us dealing picks or a vet in order to get JW if at all possible. He is going to be the best euro goaltending prospect to come along in years and years. He is so far ahead of his peers in every single category (withe the exception of Askerov) that I believe that if we could nab him at or near 7th/8th that we could run away laughing all the way to the bank. Do I love Power and co? Sure but Wally is going to be a sure fire star goalie in the NHL and while I am not one for drafting G's with your upper 1st round picks this kid and Askerov where two different kind of G's. Real difference makers who can be the best player on their team regardless of who else is on it (almost). I know we are deep on D and up front and while I like our G prospects I don't think any of them look like potential star caliber players. Having one in Quick got us two cups and almost a 3rd. Drafting one like Wally would be astonishing.

Seems like we can pretty much bank on the following:
(not necessarily in this order)
Power
Beniers
Eklund/Guenther
Hughes
McTavish
Edvinsson

Going Top 7, so you could say the 8th position is pretty ideal, either SJ takes Clarke, in which case LA takes Eklund/Guenther, or vice versa. However, and the Mayor talked about this recently, their is a trade down option if the defenseman are gone, and the right player doesn't fall.

I really hope McTavish will go this high…

Can't wait to trade down instead of selecting Kent Johnson and then watch him win the Calder next year :)

How about the year after for the Calder, please? :)

How about next year he can win the Hobey Baker and a national championship and then jump into some teams playoff lineup, maybe even the Kings.

Scott Wheelers Mock Draft take...

NHL Mock Draft: Scott Wheeler maps out who goes after Owen Power in the first round

He has us taking Brandt Clarke @ 8... and Vancouver taking Kent Johnson @ 9.

Clarke would be a mistake anywhere higher than 11th in this years draft. I like him but I see him doing allot of filling time on the ice. We have his equal(s) already in our system. This draft is closer to the 04 draft than any of the more recent ones and in that I would rather see us going after a more sure fire player. Getting teams to make deals to move up in any draft year is going to be difficult but doing so this year might be a bit easier and with our prospect depth on D and up front we have a little room to entice other GM's, maybe.

While I wouldn't like to move a player like Durzi or Spence if it would move us up into the top 4 (along with our 8th) I would have to think about it. There has to be a hickey out there for us to draft and then let walk for nothing only to become a very good NHL Man for another team for a number of years (rant part over). I would rather we get a top 10 pick in next years draft which is shaping up to becoming a very very good one but you take what you get.

It would take a lot more than Durzi to move up and Spence just completed Juniors and is an unknown talent at the AHL level. How about Brown,Yafallo,Lizotte,Wagner and Wolanin to move up 3 spots and giving up our 8th overall...C'mon Columbus do it

Certainly I wasn't implying that they would be the ONLY pieces in a deal to move up, that would be absurd. Either one of Durzi or Spence our 8th and something else like another one of our young players/prospects that are redundancies at this point could do the job though. I mean in this draft moving back 3 or 4 spots while adding a touted 2nd round Dman who is a puck mover with solid skills and nearing his NHL readiness along with a pick or prospect should do the job. It wouldn't have done so in last years draft but with this years class it certainly could. We have the depth and an 8th overall pick so I am certain that a deal COULD be done depending on the pieces. I am saddened to see how sorely you undervalue our prospects though to consider a player like Jordan Spence to hold so little value and Durzi to not even warrant a mention. I mean all around the CHL people can't stop talking about Spence and how big of a steal he was as a 4rth rounder. Same goes with our getting Durzi. Both of these young Dmen are viewed as a matter of WHEN they will play in the NHL not if. But it's cool with me. I hope everyone else in and around the NHL has your opinion of those two and many of our other prospects as well. We haven't been this loaded with talent since Luc Carson Duesch and Nichols (I could go on and on) and I am happy to hang on to who we have if we can.

Damn, Voynov comparisons? That's big shoes to fill. The last time the Kings had a Voynov type player was Voynov himself. I thought the Kings did good with Roland McKeown at the time but he ain't doing hot either. Lintuniemi was supposed to be good and lord knows which planet he's on. McNabb was stanky. Slobort.. I think Roy has been the best D prospect in a long time and I don't think he's been Voynov good.

Watching Martinez score so much in the playoffs this season was hard to watch considering the fact our D was terrible with goal scoring besides Doughty.

Oh well. Either we get a Voynov replacement or we can give him a false ID

With all due respect I totally disagree with your opinion about Clarke.
We have no defenseman prospect in our system equal to him with his kind of dynamic offence.
Can you please provide names of such defensemen?
I believe our current best prospect defensemen Brock Faber does not have elite ability on offensive side…
Clarke is excellent zone entry pack carrier with great vision and puck distribution. Also he is very creative offensively with high effort on each shift.
He needs to work on his defensive side, but he is good on this side as well.
He will be incredible steal for Kings at 8th.

Biggest issue with Clarke is his skating technique. That said, he's arguably the most intelligent defenseman and most NHL ready.

Regarding dynamic offense, both Grans and Spence have a lot of offensive tools.

Though I agree Faber's the Kings' best defensive prospect, and he doesn't have the same offensive upside.

Clarke would be a great get. My favorite of "the big 4."

Though I think my favorite D is Peart still. He's not offensively gifted, but very grounded defensively and composed.

I have some reservations regarding Grans and Spence.
Spence is too small and not solid defensively.
Grans did not have any progress on defensive side since he was drafted.
He is also not strong enough and not physical.
I like Peart as well. He looks like second Faber to me.
We really need defensemen with elite offensive upside…

After the Advinsson trade not a huge drop with our pick from 40 to 49 in the second round. We can still move up to select our guy if he drops. But it does make our #8 pick more important, got to hit on that one if we keep it.

The top of the 2nd every year is about the most exciting part of the draft for me lol, I think that's where gems are really made, so a little bummed to be without.

Especially 2 years ago, (seems more like a yr ago) when the Kings had the second pick of rd 2 and Ottawa was ahead of the Kings. Most all of us had fingers crossed for Arty dropping and when Ottawa called out Shane Pinto, I screamed Hell yeah! Then Arty was King. After round 1 Friday night, many were miffed / baffled about the Bjornfot pick....looking back, if the Kings took Arty at the Bjornfot slot,
Toby would have been gone before the 2nd round pick.

Was looking forward to having picks 40 and 49, but would make that Arvidsson trade every time.
