He played for a month after the trade deadline and didn’t shut it down until their were five games remaining. He was obviously used for the Kings sad push for the playoffs. Why not another team?

who knows. Might not have passed a medical? Maybe no one wanted him? Maybe the extra year was a no go.

I haven’t really followed the Montreal selection, figured the prospect raped or killed someone by the uproar I’m seeing.

Kid made a dumb mistake to disseminate photos or Snapchat of him having sex with a female. We’ve all heard stories of Hockey players doing way worse shit. Come on.

Not to mention it was a bad draft all around.

I wouldn’t say that, it’s more of a reflection that teams don’t have as much information/tape than they would in pre-Covid years.

There’s a great opportunity for teams to really grab some under the radar player that can end up being a home run selection tomorrow. I really hope Blake and Co have done their homework. This is a pivotal draft for them.

Sure but he also "withdrew" from the draft and it's just, overall, a bad look. No one is suggesting we crucify him or anything, it was just a weird, tone-deaf pick ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I expect a lot of really solid players down the road from the rounds 3-5.

he can't withdraw himself though yknow.. so like, what's acceptable? 2nd round? 3rd? 7th? career ended? somebody's gonna be mad that he gets drafted at all. it's an indefinite line

i'm not gonna defend what the kid did cause it's morally reprehensible but he's also a dipshit 18 year old. he made a rather mature statement and owned up to it, he's being punished legally.. how many pounds of flesh do we want?

I don't think anyone should have drafted him this year. I don't want any pounds of flesh. It was just the right thing to do

I frankly think all NHL teams should have honored a kid's request so he can actually do what he wanted to accomplish. Not even as "punishment" but if he genuinely wants to focus on his maturity and reflection and growth from doing something awful, the teams should have honored that.

Apparently Montreal wasn't the only one still planning to take him. They just gave fewer ****s than the rest. But in light of the sexual assault investigation going on with Chicago, disregarding his request not be drafted and prepping a canned statement about his apology is gross.

Hmmm. A bartender not recognizing a simple beer joke.

i can't really disagree with the sentiment of honoring his wish, other than to suggest that maybe him being in a higher-level professional environment with some potentially higher quality mentors may end up being better for him than letting him stew.. i have to imagine there's just more resources (and eyes) available at the AHL/NHL level than the wild west O

It still makes me uneasy to disregard someone's wish because you think you know better than they need for themselves. Especially since Bergevin is also a part of the sexual assault allegations the Blackhawks are facing.

And it's just bad timing. To me, it's not even about getting a pound of flesh. But Mailloux has had no time since his announcement to pursue personal growth. The victim was also given the proverbial finger. It just makes Mailloux's efforts seem insincere, too.

Did the Habs not learn anything from the Mitchell Miller incident at last years draft? The only difference is that Miller was like a 4th round pick, the Habs waisted their own first round pick on him. This already isn't going over well and I doubt its going to get any better. Why deal with a headache when you don't have to?

Anyone catch Stan Bowman’s big dog and pony show before announcing their pick? Give me a break, so cringeworthy and fake!

I thought it was ironic considering a) the sexual assault allegations against the organization and b) right before showing off all the women on his staff, the Canadiens picked the sex crime offender.

100% an optics show to get in front of the storm that'll be arriving soon for a).

And here's the perp Montreal drafted. This guy has the gall to post photos of the lady he had sex with. With a mug and character like that you should be buying her flowers and thanking her every day for even being around you!

Again, all these corporations are 100% lip service. They'd draft a serial killer if he filled an organizational need.

I can't believe they did that, Bergevin should have made another selection. Mailloux asked out because of what he did and feels he is not mature enough at this point.

Looking for info on the Panthers trade and stumbled across an article about this kid. It the Incident took place in Sweden, he was 17 at the time and he as charged, fined and released. London Knights said they provided psychological evaluation and support and Mailloux is seeing a psychologist.
26 NHL teams interviewed him for the draft and inquired about the incident. The teams that would not interview and stated they would not draft were Rangers , Hawks, Leafs and Coyotes.

Yeah they should have respected the kids wishes, let him mature and he could have been drafted next year. Pretty dumb on Bergevin’s part but then again what’s new with that bozo?
