Red Sox cut ties with Lowell

Red Sox extend invites to 4 Minors affiliates

Red Sox extend invites to 4 Minors affiliates

In conjunction with Major League Baseball’s new Minor League player development structure, the Red Sox today invited the following clubs for continued professional affiliation: the Worcester Red Sox (AAA), Portland Sea Dogs (AA), Greenville Drive (A Adv.), and Salem Red Sox (A).

“We are pleased that Worcester, Portland, Greenville, and Salem have been invited to continue their affiliation and will remain part of the extended Red Sox family,” said Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy. “Our farm system is an essential component in our work to create a more consistent and efficient operation that helps us play October baseball each and every year. We thank our affiliates for the significant role they play in shaping our future stars, and look forward to continuing our relationship under MLB’s improved player development structure.”

The Red Sox are not the culprit as they were forced by MLB to reduce one team. The fact that they own the team in Salem, VA backed them into a corner. It came down to Greenville vs Lowell and it made sense to keep Greenville because of Salem.

It sounds like the Red-Sox are talking about helping lowell find independent or collegiate opportunity's rather than rejoining affiliated baseball.

It will be interesting year. There aren't any first year player's who are likely HOFers, so is it finally the year Bonds and Clemens are elected? Will it be the first year since 2013 where no one is elected?

I think Schilling sneaks in as long as he keeps his mouth shut and doesn't do anything stupid before the vote. But that's a big ask of him.

Yeah idk if the person that collects nazi paraphernalia is exactly the kind of person that cares all that much about his public image. I do not think you’re making a reasonable request of him lol

It’s a tough one for me. I’d vote him in because I think his postseason play in particular merits his inclusion, but he’s just such an idiot lol

For me, the Baseball Hall of Fame should be about baseball's best players. Not the hall of good people who also played baseball well. So I would put Rose, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Bonds, Clemens, and Schilling in. But baseball in particular among the four major sports has this weird moral complex. Think of the children!

The Black Sox scandal still resonates. I still believe when Kenesaw Mountain Landis took over after that scandal his integrity of the game clause still has an effect. Whether it is as simple as players not liked by the media not getting votes or gambling there is an out for guys who don't want to vote for the Bonds, Clemens', etc.

I think Schilling belongs in, as does Shoeless Joe who denied cheating until he died. Clemens', Bonds and the steroid era players I look at differently.

It's not strictly followed, though. Ty Cobb is just one example.

No big surprise here - O'Nora pleaded " not guilty " today. Sounds pretty cut and dried bit but some POS lawyer will probably get him off ( yeah - pun fully intended :naughty: ) with a slap on the wrist and no jail time.

from cbssports.com:

On Tuesday, Major League Baseball umpire Brian O'Nora pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor solicitation charges. According to a press release from Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, O'Nora was named as part of a group of over a dozen men that were arrested in part of the prostitution sting.

The 57-year old umpire appeared at his arraignment in Girard Municipal Court and was released on a $5,000 bond. O'Nora will make his next court appearance on March 3, 2021.

According to USA Today, O'Nora was arrested after he responded to an online advertisement for a female prostitute. The advertisement listed a phone number which O'Nora is accussed of calling, and authorities say that O'Nora used "implicit and explicit language" to address the woman and he wanted to "engage in sexual activity for hire."

O'Nora later agreed to meet her at a Youngstown, Ohio motel and he was arrested on charges of solicitation upon his arrival. The charges were a first and third-degree misdemeanor and each charge is punishable by limited jail time or a fine.

I would be unphased by that. Bell doesn’t really have much of a spot on the Yankees and Taillon hasn’t pitched since early 2019 due to TJ surgery. Has had plenty of injury issues. Plus the Yankees would have to surrender a decent amount to acquire them

I mean I would hope he doesn’t get jail time for that. It’s not like this is sex trafficking

No - it's definitely not. But will just a fine stop most guys from doing the same thing again ???? I would hope that the public shame ( and possibly losing his high paying job ) would be enough to deter O'Nora from going back. :dunno:

Schilling is a no brainer since there just weren’t better pitchers than him out there those 15 years and some recent inclusions have really lowered the bar.

Off the field is off the field and no defending I’m there.

Al Michaels was voted the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcast excellence by the Hall on Wednesday and will be honored July 24 during the Hall's induction weekend.

Michaels was on the National Voices ballot that also included Buddy Blattner, Joe Buck, Dave Campbell, Dizzy Dean, Don Drysdale, Ernesto Jerez and Dan Shulman.

“This is able now to take me back to to the beginning, because I really feel in a way since it’s been so long since I have done baseball that it’s like an out-of-body experience, like somebody else did this,” he said. "It’s like the circle is complete.”

He broadcast for Hawaii in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League from 1968-70, the Cincinnati Reds from 1971-73 and the San Francisco Giants 1974-76.

Michaels gained a national spotlight when ABC had MLB rights from 1976-89 and again in 1994 and ’95, coverage interrupted by the players’ strike. He didn’t broadcast baseball again until a game on the MLB Network in 2011.
