Staten Island never took off the way Brooklyn in Coney Island did but it was a nice day at the park. The park is adjacent to the ferry from Manhattan and the end of the SI subway line. However, most of SI (500,000 people) live on the other side of the island.

Trenton was a good operation as well.

The Yankees decided Fishkill and Somerset were a better fit.

Meanwhile, the silence about Lowell does not bode well for the Spinners. One issue is the Red Sox OWN the team in Salem, VA so that isn't going anywhere and the team likes Greenville, SC.

The Red Sox have a history of dropping bad news late on a Friday so we might know something later today.

Trade opens up a spot on the 40-man roster.

Makes you wonder if there's another move that's about to take place.

could also be freeing the spot up to make a rule 5 pick

I like that trade a lot. Aybar does have big potential as a late innings power lefty but he’s so raw for his age he’s unlikely to ever reach it. Opens up a 40 man spot and adds an intriguing infield prospect who could be a solid utility guy down the road

This team is going to get flexible over the next couple of years. I expect most position guys to be able to play multiple spots. Gonna turn this operation into the Moneybag Rays

Moneybag Rays is basically what the Dodgers already are. I do believe Chaim wants us to be Dodgers East.

It feels like he hasn’t been talked about at all anywhere but I could see the Sox going after Tanaka. Would be a short term deal but we know he can pitch in big markets and in the AL East

Never lived up to that $155 million contract and $20 million posting fee the Yankees paid for him, but he's still a good pitcher. Solid #2/great #3 starter. I'd be amenable to that.

Soxprospects top 10 post instructs:
1) Casas
2) Downs
3) Mata
4) Duran
5) Gilberto Jimenez- apparently added a bunch of muscle and is hitting for more power. I think he could end up being a stud in the majors
6) Dalbec
7) Houck
8) Thad Ward
9) Seabold
10) Aldo Ramirez

Groome slots in at 12

What are your thoughts about their Top 10? Whoever they draft at 4, is that player guaranteed to be their #1 prospect?

Joe Mooney, Red Sox Hall of Fame groundskeeper for three decades, dies at 90 - The Boston Globe

Joe Mooney, who rose from a clubhouse boy in Scranton, Pa., to the Red Sox Hall of Fame after more than three decades keeping Fenway Park’s green pristine as its head groundskeeper and superintendent, has died. He was 90.

Mooney, who was living in Wakefield, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 29. Dave Mellor, who took over the Director of Grounds job from Mooney in 2001, eulogized his “dear friend and mentor” Saturday on social media.

Here's hoping it is all natural muscle and not another Michael Chavis situation.

I wouldn’t worry about it, he’s an athletic freak who had a lot of projectability with his frame. They say he’s built like a running back now so it’s not like he’s this bulky monster. He was just more of a slap hitter before and can now drive the ball with more authority.

Chavis was always kind of short and stocky so when he started to hit the ball a million mph it was like hmmmmmmm

All that said I’ve done a 180 on PED’s in sports, I now find anti-doping to be a futile extension of the war on drugs. The only thing it really does is give rich athletes an advantage. I don’t expect people to agree with me because it’s kind of a controversial stance but I just don’t see the value in orgs like USADA and I don’t see the value in testing for these things.

I used to work with Cody Stanley for instance and there’s an example of a guy who got f***ed by anti-doping practices. He basically kept pulsing for a substance he had taken long in the past and it kept showing back up in his system until they basically banned him. USADA has now learned since that this is a thing that happens and presented itself in an MMA fighter like Jon Jones. People have lost their careers due to this nonsense across multiple sports (Cody Stanley, Tom Lawlor, Josh Barnett, etc) and honestly a lot of them aren’t lying when they say it was a tainted supplement. A lot of these supplement companies do not clean out their vats thoroughly so trace amounts of PED’s can show up in otherwise legal products

So yeah- it’s basically just an extension of the war on drugs, which has objectively been a complete failure for the last 40ish years. A bunch of low level offenders get their lives ruined for something that’s really not going to make much of a difference or truly clean up their sport

I wonder if the Sox would have any interest in Sonny Gray ???? :dunno:

from cbssports.com:

The Reds are "working hard" to trade right-hander Sonny Gray, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Sherman says they are doing that while scouring the market for starting pitchers. The strategy may be to trade Gray for multiple pieces, they replace him via free agency or trade at a lower cost. Gray is owed $10 million in 2021 and 2022, with a $12 million club option for 2023.

Dude couldn't hack it mentally in the AL East. Hard pass.
