Hell baby
The Sox took three players in today's Rule 5 Draft, including two Yankees. Not surprisingly, the Sox didn't lose a player.

great success

Whitlock has a chance to start. Wouldn’t shock me if he sticks and they use him as a bulk guy to come in after an opener. Sinker/slider guy. Would probably benefit from the increased shifting around the league- wouldn’t shock me to see sinker/slider guys make a bit of a comeback

Reed has pop but there was a prospect with a similar profile In the rangers system who performed when Reed was injured and kinda took his development path. Nice to add him to the fold as prospect depth, he seems interesting

Ort apparently has a big arm and control issues. Came from Indy ball. Decent upside for a minor league rule 5 guy, although he’s on the older side. Always nice to pluck two guys from the Yankees system and lose nobody

Good analysis of our picks. Looking forward to seeing Whitlock in ST and the others where they are assigned.

Quattlebaum discussed the picks in the video below. He addresses Whitlock first (don’t identify him at first), followed by Reed and Orr.

More on Whitlock from CBS Sports:

Whitlock, who had Tommy John surgery in July 2019, had helium coming into the draft process. He's a well-built right-hander who has already achieved success at the Double-A level, and who should be able to stick in relief behind his fastball-slider pairing. If the Red Sox can work with Whitlock to develop his changeup, he could turn into a back-end starter over the long haul.

Dombrowski coming in and ruining your farm system is one of those wildly overblown tales that gets passed down and people start blindly believing it and repeating it. There’s a reason he’s consistently one of the most in demand front office guys in the league. The only legitimate players he dealt from Boston was Moncada and Shaw followed up by a few mid level, replaceable prospects.

he murders your prospect depth but generally speaking he’s a great evaluator of talent and knows who to draw the line on when it comes to dealing prospects

Chris Rose contract not being renewed by Baseball Network. Horrible. One of my top 3 favorite media people and Intentional Talk a show I’ve watched pretty much every on of their shows 2020 stuck in the house

I can’t believe they did this

Cleveland’s Baseball Team Will Drop Its Indians Team Name

Following years of protests from fans and Native American groups, the Cleveland Indians have decided to change their team name, moving away from a moniker that has long been criticized as racist, three people familiar with the decision said Sunday.

The move follows a decision by the Washington Football Team of the N.F.L. in July to stop using a name long considered a racial slur, and is part of a larger national conversation about race that magnified this year amid protests of systemic racism and police violence.

Cleveland could announce its plans as soon as this week, according to the three people, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

It is not immediately clear what Cleveland’s exact steps will be beyond dropping the Indians name. The transition to a new name involves many logistical considerations, including work with uniform manufacturers and companies that produce other team equipment and stadium signage.

One of the people said Cleveland planned to keep the Indians name and uniforms for the 2021 season while working to shift away from it as early as 2022.
