The season of releasing big money vets is beginning.

NFL terminology seems very misleading at times. Van Noy per Spotrac in 2020 made $15 mill cash from Miami. $3 mill base salary plus $5.5 mill in SB and $6.5 mill in Roster bonus.

Per over the cap, he will count $4 mill in dead cap (due to his the 3 years left of his pro-rated SB).

So, them writing that he had $30 million guaranteed is misleading. Difference between fully guranteed and guaranteed. Likely his base salary for 2021 becomes fully guaranteed if he's on the roster after a certain date, thus gets included in the guaranteed definition.

Not shocking. They have Irv Smith Jr. who was their #2 TE who now moves into that #1 spot.

Should still be able to help a team a bit more than Olsen did with Seattle last season. See where he lands.

And they have Tyler Conklin as a backup. Only problem both are injury prone. Also Rudolph was over paid and he refused to restructure his contract. Also Vikings gets $5 million (I think)in much needed cap space. Sad to see him go and I wish him all the best.

Cook was a free agent anyways, they’re just letting him into the market early.

Will that impact any potential compensatory draft pick that they could get should Cook sign with another team?

Probably not because the Saints will probably end up signing someone that will negate it.

There are teams like NE who maneuver to obtain those compensatory draft picks. Like them shipping off Collins to Cleveland because they would be active in free agency in the off season thus wouldn’t get a pick for him if they let him walk this trading him gives them that pick.

Was curious with that terminology of terminating Cook’s contract would that impact them in terms of a comp picks since NO is going to be reworking contracts and cutting guys to stay within the salary cap. That they may not be active in free agency this terminating that contract could cost them a draft pick.

Saints are releasing Thomas Morestead, saving 3.5m and didn’t have a good year anyways. That leaves, officially, Drew Brees as the last standing member of the Super Bowl team still on the team, although Malcolm Jenkins obviously left and came back. Chase Daniel I think is the only other guy still in the league
