The double standard is amazing. I don't disagree with you, but this is the same fanbase where the majority tarred and feathered ADA. He didn't commit a crime. He didn't assault a woman, a child, or torture animals. Yet, here we are. Quinnen Williams went to the airport with an illegal gun (this seemed more like stupidity, but he still brought a gun - unregistered in NY - to an airport), a Jet (name escapes me) drove the wrong way through a city tunnel drunk, Robby Anderson fought the police a couple of times, Sheldon Robertson had a few incidents - I remember a police pursuit with no lights on, and drugs I believe. They were all welcomed with open arms and are either still on the team or went on to sign contracts elsewhere.

I was one of ADA's biggest supporters around here. I believe that ADA would have grounds for a libel suit against several posters on HFBoards. But I don't think HFBoards represents the majority of hockey fans or sports fans in general. The amount of toxic, judgmental people on this website is astounding. But whenever I see these 'progressive minded' hypocrits go after people for the tiniest of personal fallacies, I realize that these same people would be sobbing and begging for forgiveness if we could see their internet search histories.
But herein lies the difference between the Giants and the Jets. The Giants fanbase tarred and feathered Odell for.... kicking a net? They picked that guy apart for no reason, and the front office helped the media do it. They also excommunicated Kyle Lauletta for a DUI. And both of those moves made a shitty team even shittier. I understand why guys don't want to come play for NYG. You've got John Mara who is essentially just like those toxic posters on HFBoards running the show. The Jets are just cursed and can't draft a decent player to save their lives. But if the Jets had an OBJ, my god they'd never let him go.
I'm a firm believer in second chances. I did stupid shit as a teenager/young adult and can empathize when someone does something stupid. I'd say 98% of the shit you see in the media from athletes is just some young, stupid guy with money being dumb and not egregiously horrible. Case and point Plaxico Burress. He did not deserve to spend time in prison for that. Sure, a big fine, but throwing the book at him? Come on. Meanwhile Tyreke Hill can literally almost kill his kid twice and he's fine.
What do you think the modern New York Giants would do to Lawrence Taylor? They'd destroy him. John Mara would run LT out of town quicker than he ran out OBJ.

hmm,

i agree with your take on TDA. A lot of external things in the media may have contributed to that. W/o rehashing it all, i think the Rangers should have handled it better.

OBJ? Fans though he was a dope for losing to a kickers net. The real issue came with that boat trip. He and the receivers were no shows for the playoff game the following week. Once Gettleman resigned OBJ, he went on ESPN with somebody going by the name Lil Wayne to ridicule Eli. Gettleman then screwed up the cap by trading OBJ.

As far as Taylor, those were different times and even then the guy was suspended. The 80’s had a lot of issues with teams and snowstorms including the 86 Mets and yes, a future legend who joined the Rangers from the Oilers.

Your comments about some posters. Funny stuff lol, very funny.

I can’t see the Giants being terrible with that division. They’ll be in it. Outside of Philly, I think anyone can win it. Will depend on injuries, Covid, etc.

wait, what? You can’t see the Giants being terrible with that division? The Giants contribute to making this division terrible lol.

Hindsight being 20/20, that boat trip was the least of NYG's problems. That entire team laid an egg that day, starting with the defense. That hail mary to end the half was the back breaker in that game and Odell got a bad rap for that.
And he wasn't wrong about Eli, but he shouldn't have been the guy to say it. McAdoo was that guy but he went about it in the worst possible way, benching Eli before breaking the record for most games started for Geno f***ing Smith in a season that was already over was just a dipshit, low class move.
Gettleman is an absolute moron and encapsulates everything that is wrong with Mara.
The 80's were some great times for cocaine. I'd be lying if I said I didn't partake... Everyone did. Back then you could run into the New York Mets players and they'd party with you. I've ot some crazy stories about those 80's Mets teams just seeing them out on the town. Those guys were animals.

no, no, no, Eli hit those receivers right in the hands for so many drops. Can’t give the Packers chances. Eli was on, the defense was good and those receivers spit the bit. Upon returning to camp, nobody disciplined OBJ. He then got hurt, along with the rest of the receivers, no OL help was added and Ben Mc became the big scapegoat. He may not have been a great coach yet nobody could have won with that mess.

80’s yeah, what a party lol

Beckham had several off-field things that were bad looks. The boat. The hotel room thing. The ESPN interview. On the field it was the stupid stuff with Josh Norman (also an idiot). The net (a couple times). Other stupid personal fouls and losing his cool. Punching holes in walls and slamming his head into things. He was really childish--still is. All of those things, as isolated incidents, or maybe just two of them, it's okay, "that's what wide receivers do." But together it was too much for the Giants and honestly I think it would have been too much for most teams in the league. I understood why the Giants felt they needed to move on.

Lauletta already had a reckless driving conviction. The second thing was another reckless driving and not initially stopping for or cooperating with police. And he had apparently done it the day before. LOL. Thing is, Lauletta sucked/sucks. I don't know how it made the Giants any worse.

The Jets just traded away arguably the best safety in the game last year. They traded one of the greatest CBs ever to play, in his prime. They traded Keyshawn Johnson. I don't know why you think they'd unrelentingly hold onto a player who proved to be a problem just because they're good. They've traded or cut other talented players, too. Maybe not on Beckham's level, but still. The Jets problem is that they suck at finding actual talent but then also suck at keeping it.

Burress you can "blame" on Mike Bloomberg. His situation had nothing to do with the NFL.

The times have changed. I don't always agree with the way certain guys are dealt with but it's the new reality.

I just went back and watched some highlights and yeah, I'd say the receivers dropping balls demoralized the whole team.
I don't know how I made it out of 80's. The shit you could get away with... My god.. I remember going to work strung out and hungover as f*** on Monday after Giants games, and my boss calling me in his office saying 'you look like shit', and pulling out a metal box with some white powder saying 'this should get you through the rest of the day'. Then we'd go out to lunch with some clients and have 10 beers each while hitting the powder off the table in plain sight. This probably happened 2-3 times per week. Back then I spent time going between NYC, LA, and Miami... it was madness. Pure madness.

the 80’s were great!!! lol

the Miracle on Ice, the Big bad NFC East, 85 Bears, 49ers West Coast, Miami Hurricanes, yeah i hated the Islanders, Celtics vs Lakers then Michael Jordan, the Big East, Mike Tyson, Leonard/Hagler/Hearns, etc, Gretzky/Super Mario, Taylor, Parcells, the Ny Sack Exchange, the 86 Mets, heavy Metal and what a party including a snowstorm lol.

Anyone want to bet me that Sam doesn't throw for 300+ yards and 3 TD's with 2 of them going to Robbie vs Jets on Sunday?

Yeah I thought no one would...lol

The problem is Adams wanted to be the highest paid safety in the league. When the rest of your roster is devoid of talent why would you spend money on a non-premier position? A super bowl team can have an average safety. QB? WR? Edge Rusher? MLB? Shutdown Corner? Those positions carry significant more impact.

I’m fired up for the season. Carolina missing both of their starting G - Quinnen/Ranking/Fatukasi all need to have good days and push their way into the back field. Get Darnold rattled. And don’t make our corners do long coverage spells

excited to see Elijah Moore as well. Hopefully the offense does some damage and keeps us interested. Just give me some interesting games please. I know we’ll lose a lot of them but keep us tuned in. Gase killed watchability for so long.

That's like trying to decide which terminal cancer is worse..

Idzik cleared the cap entirely. He just also was probably the absolute worst drafter ever. Mac couldnt draft but attempted to supliment that with free agents that had to be overpaid to be on the jets.

Great first game, awesome to have the NFL back.

Having invested a 4th round pick to get Amari Cooper and watch him go totally off for 45+ fantasy points, while at same time owning Tampa Bay's D/ST and see them get absolutely torched in my longtime $$ league was quite the conundrum last night....lol.

But yes great entertaining game last night to kick off the '21 NFL season. Hopefully the Jets can be somewhat entertaining this year as well for the first time in forever...hmmmm.

Dak did me good in our league. Fortunately my opponent sat Gronk. Though we'll see what Jonnu does.

It's absolutely going to happen. As a Jet fan for over 50 years, I've seen this movie dozens of times before. It would actually be shocking if Sam doesn't toy with the Jets secondary as bad as it is.

Hopefully we are wrong but I heavily doubt it!!

Engram out so Giants have a better chance to win. Thankfully he won't be there to drop the ball or fumble or hold in an important spot.

I certainly empathize with people making mistakes. I think it needs to be more of a case by case basis. Is the guy a lousy individual or did he make a stupid mistake? Repeated run ins with the law is generally a bad sign.

As for Plaxico, he carried an illegal firearm into a nightclub and fired it. He could've killed someone - maybe himself. Bloomberg made it a point to throw the book at him. I didn't agree with him being treated differently than others, but he absolutely deserved to spend some time in jail. You can't have idiots running around a city with handguns then just give them a slap on the wrist.
