No one is crying for Hockey Canada. In fact, we have be generous with our criticism.
Sorry that is not what I was saying .
They have made a ton of money over the year.
There is always a time when people or organizations have to give back in a down time or crises.

I hope that is what they are doing.

They should cut the guys they know they are cutting now, test them, and if they don't have it, let them go back home.

the whole process should be short circuited before Dec06.
Pick the team now. Throw in an additional player or two as Covit insurance ( to be cut at official team entry) and get at it.
There is no time to fool around with 46 players.
Time is of the essence.
Don’t tell me the coaching staff cant reach a consensus on the roster.

I’m not one for pessimism, but I really think this drops us from prohibitive gold medal favourite to more likely than not to lose early and badly. Our boys mostly won’t have played meaningful hockey in...what, 8-10 months? It’s impossible for there not to be a ton of rust, especially for our goalies, which are already our weak link. Couple that with our easy group this year, and it just seems like everything is lining up for us to run into a Russian or American team in the first elimination game and get obliterated.

It’s a damn shame, because this team is one of if not the most ridiculous WJC teams I have ever seen in terms of pure skill.

Boohoo so you have to stay away from visiting people and travel for a few months how is that depression. People think just because you may be sad or lonely that it's depression...It isn't. Covid is more of a danger right now.
The depression comes when the income stops or slows cause your business or employer's business went under or is closed. Covid has killed 10,947 people and 10,781 were in LTC homes (98.4%) in Canada (as per CTV). It is not in the slightest dangerous to the average person. Only if you are sick and old to begin with does it do harm (& so does the flu every year and we don't punish people for that on an annual basis do we?).

You're assuming other teams don't run into Covid issues - they may have to quarantine for 14 days.

Starting Dec 6th, we get 2 solid weeks of practice, a few exhibition games, round robin games/wins against Germany, Slovakia and Switzerland, then we peak on NYE against the Fins.

In other words, we'll be fine.

It was all easily predictable. We really are living in the age of stupid. but oh well. I think it's about 50/50 at this point that this tournament even happens.
You got me worried because you might be right.

It the USports All Stars have not quarantined, how do we know they will not bring an infection?

When do the other countries arrive?

I earnestly hope you are correct.

I would never be happier to be wrong!

First and foremost it is about not running our health care system down.

The only problem is if you don't die from this , it is the covid fog that people are getting. People that used to be in great health our now having serious issues.

I don't want to live or does from this virus.

I feel better about the tournament after hearing the response.

Hockey Canada is getting a lot of flak right now for this, but I’m not certain it’s all warranted. This virus is ridiculously contagious, and it’s asymptomatic spread makes it all the more insidious. There are definitely precautions that can be taken, and HC has taken them but there is nothing that’s foolproof. A full bubble is so expensive that even the NHL has balked at the idea of doing that again, and they have a LOT more money to throw around than HC does. Aside from that, what else would you have done that they didn’t? :dunno:

Full bubble but for 8 or 9 days less time. Would’ve guaranteed a longer camp...they will be scrambling last minute now and less practiced than the other teams.

These numbers have been debunked as false, as is your assertion of there not being any danger to the “average“ person.

As far as other teams running into Covid issues I hope he's not correct. As much as it sucks for Canada to miss out on 2 entire weeks of preparation at least they had that buffer time to have that happen and not affect the tournament. Other teams come over into the bubble with exactly 14 days until pre tournament starts they have no buffer time. If anyone else has any issues it will start affecting games.

How are the other teams being treated once they arrive into the bubble on December 6th? Are they all separated from teammates for 2 weeks and tested before they come out so it will be known that no one has covid for sure, or are they separated from other teams but allowed to co-mingle and practice as a team until the 2 weeks is complete? I would assume it's the latter(the former seems extreme and not conducive to playing highest level competitive hockey straight out of 14 days in a hotel room), but that brings potential issues of someone entering the bubble on the 6th with covid incubating in their body but not yet positive and giving it to an unknown number of teammates which upon discovery would force a team quarantine for an entire 14 day and disrupt the tournament.

I would imagine this covid-fiasco has rued any last chance of Canada receiving Lafrenière, I don’t imagine the Rangers would want to send him into an active quarantine
I don't exactly see how it would have literally any effect on the decision seeing as they would not be in an active quarantine when they release him.

I don't really get why Laf would want to come back honestly. He was the best player in this tournament last year, won gold and nearly had a serious injury. I think he's probably focused on the NHL rather than coming back to dominate a tournament he's already won and was the best player on the ice for.

Side note I wonder how they select the team now. I think the defence was locked but it seems to me the final 6 forwards (including the 2 extras), were up for grabs.
