I get why you might gift Newhook a slot, but why is Holloway automatically on the team? He's done nothing I'm aware of to distinguish himself from the pack.
Also, Mercer and Tomasino are your only right-shot wingers. Doubt that happens.
Finally, aren't they taking 14 forwards this year?

I am guessing Holloway will make it.. Good size, speed, two way player.. just a guess. I think he'll be noticeable when he comes in.
Never heard 14 ... you might be right .. so that gives a chance to one more
Jarvis, Quinn, Clarke are right shots I never considered the right shot vs left shot wingers just went with my impressions from 2 games.. those 3 right shots all still have a chance.

That looks pretty fair (except for Grieg, but I get it), although I wouldn't be so sure on Zary either and I don't think Wright is safe

Up front that leaves the

Dach/Tomasino
Cozens/McMicheal
Byfield/Krebs
combos they've been running

Quinn/Dach/Tomasino
Jarvis/Byfield/Krebs
Perfetti/Cozens/McMichael
Holloway/Mercer/Rees
Extras: 2 of Poulin, Zary, Wright, Newhook

Top line is pure offence, middle six play more a possession game and would be effective in any zone, fourth line and extras are players I think will work hard and can fill holes in the top 9.

Pelletier is in the mix.
Quinn? Bubble player
I wish Byfield would do something besides lose the puck in traffic.
I was death on him last year and I see marginal upgrade so far. Everyone seems to give him auto passing grade.

Agreed, I should have at least mentioned Pelletier in the extras, I like him much more than Zary who's being overhyped right now so I gave Zary the outside chance.
Quinn is in no way a lock, but given that you could slide pretty much anyone in with Dach/Tomasino and they'll get chances, I like Quinn the most to finish them.
Byfield I specifically like with Krebs and Jarvis because of the two winger's skating, possession, and zone entry abilities. The less often Byfield has to carry the puck up ice the better.

Looking at the calendar, game one is still over a month away.

I haven't been this excited about a World Juniors in YEARS.

I'm excited every single year. I follow this tournament more than I do the NHL lol. Something about this tournament at Christmas time. My earliest memories of this tournament start in 2004 with the Fleury mis-hap. So I've been lucky to witness mostly Canadian dominance, minus the Finnish and American wins here and there.

But I must agree, with everything else going on and a potentially delayed NHL season, this is going to be awesome.

Button was just on Vancouver radio saying Byrum Drysdale Schneider Harley Robertson Korczak and Guhle came into camp as the D. All of those other guys are basically fighting for one spot.

He also basically said there are 8 forwards already on the team, although he doesn't say who, so there are six spots to fill. He said (I'm paraphrasing) that a group of very good 2020 picks is here basically in preparation for next year, and he doubts they will be on this year's team: Perfetti, Bourque Jarvis and Foerster and then he added Wright to that group.

Button: Unbelievable watching Byram play; Dach already showing dominance

Would be hard to believe Perfetti doesn't make the team. He was (if I recall correctly) one of the last cuts for the 2020 team. I think he makes it this year. Need a shootout specialist.

we have lots of left shot wingers.
Can any of those guys steal away a right wing spot
There is going to be some very good left shot players going to go bye bye tomorrow.

That's interesting if true, and not all that surprising. I assume that the team won't cut Greig, Holloway, Newhook, or Levi tomorrow. Simoneau might make it too since he was delayed. I'll be surprised if Wright makes it past the first cuts. I also wouldn't be surprised if Barron and Spence were competing for a spot.

I would be surprised if Rees and Zary are cut. Still, it's only two scrimmages so far. Considering how long these guys have to train, the staff has to give them every chance to show their stuff. I don't think he'll make the team, but Hunt looked good to me. This team is swimming in Dmen. If they take the bigger, solid guys like Guhle, Schneider, Robertson and Korczak then it allows them to take a smaller PMD if needed ( though I don't think it's necessary). Maybe a Cormier or Spence...Barron, too, though he is by no means small. I even liked Sebrango a bit, and ROR wouldn't be a mistake as an all round #8 D.

Zary doesn't deserve to be cut based on the 1st 2 games . If he has a good 3rd game he'll stick for now. Greig will likely get more than one game.

We have the 6 combos you mentioned .. I would guess adding Mercer, Holloway and Newhook to those 6. Making 9

We need 4 out of Perfetti, Quinn, Rees, Zary, Pelletier, Poulin, Jarvis , Lapierre, ? Wright to make 13 forwards

Pressure is on those guys to distinguish themselves ..I would give Perfetti and Rees an inside track.. I think Zary is close as well.

On D for me..

Byram (L)
Drysdale (R)
Guhle (L)
Korczak (R)

3 out of ... Barron(R) , Spence (R), Harley (L), Robertson (L), Schneider ( R), O'Rourke (L) ? All these guys have had some good and bad moments. I might take Big stay at home crusher Robertson and the puck mover Spence as of right now.

Head Coach Andre Tourigny on
@ConnorZary
“He was one of our best players after four days of practice. He works really hard and tenacious. He’s a flex player, can play different positions, different roles, take face-offs, play both special teams. He showed a lot of good tools.”

Also, I’ve been watching the program “The Nature Of Things” and it seems to mostly be about science and nature, but not one bit of hockey is shown! Why did Montreal draft that guy?!
Worst part is, he insists on playing with real wooden sticks, as long as they're not made from old growth.

I'm seeing lots of roster predictions.

Are people putting much stock into tomorrow's performances? Or are minds already made up?

I think it would be silly to say that it doesn't matter but it is fair to say it's unlikely to shake up the prevailing trends. If you've played well during the drills and the first two scrimmages one poor game is unlikely to move you from safe to cut and on the other hand if you haven't done much so far you're going to need a hell of a game to get out of the first cuts.

Basically most of the camp has already happened, I think the coaches already have a pretty good idea of who's getting cut first but the final game could convince them to take one bubble guy over another when they're deciding the last few names to stay after the first round of cuts.

I think cutting Perfetti would be a mistake. His production in the OHL last year was identical to Byfield's, he's great in the shootout, and was our best player at the Hlinka.

I also think Jarvis should make the team, but I doubt that happens.

Judging from something Ray Ferraro says here, it seems like he and Gord Miller are going to be doing commentary/play-by-play for the games against the USports teams. That's kinda cool

Guess it’s their preseason too. The Red/White games already had way higher production quality than usual and this year they’re showing ALL the pre-tourney games, not just Canada‘s. Just when I thought TSN couldn’t step it up any more, here we go!
