I didn't notice Korczak as much, but Robertson and Hunt stood out to me as well.
korczak would be a third pair guy and maybe even an extra D, I just like his size and PK ability, and he handles the puck fairly well for a big kid. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them going with Barron over him though. I could see a top 6 D of Robertson-Drysdale, Byram-Barron, Harley-Schneider, and in that case I wouldn’t take Korczak. Enough size and defensive ability there without him, and I’d want to give someone like Cormier, Spence or even hunt/O’rourke a look for the 7th spot. Years ago hunt was brought to the u18’s in April as an underage D man, don’t think he played a lot but shows he’s in high regard with hockey Canada. He showed more transitional ability and confidence with the puck then he did at the last Hlinka tourney. All in all this D core has many different options to choose from. As good as Owen Power is, you can tell why hockey Canada wasn’t willing to give him and Michigan preferential treatment, they already have their hands full with picking 7 D with what is in camp to begin with.

It's too bad our goaltending is such a question mark this year because our forward group is stacked, and the defense core is awesome as well.

Canada v. all the European teams combined who's forward group is better? Sounds silly initially, but it looks pretty close to me. Apologies for the players out of position

Lafreniere - Dach - Cozens
Newhook - Byfield - McMichael
Mercer - Tomasino - Perfetti
Holloway - Krebs - Quinn
Wright, Pelletier

Raymond - Stutzle - Kakko
Podkolzin - Rossi - Holtz
Reichel - Lundell - Amirov
Lambert - Hendriksson - Puistola
Mysak, Abramov

I'm probably missing some guys on the fringes but this feels close.

I absolutely agree that goaltending is a bit of a question mark, but Canada's forward group is impressive. I still give the edge to the European teams
combined.

Without question, just don't like the "greater than thou" attitude from fans. Picture USA b-ball fans saying that they're Olympic team would beat an all-star team from all other countries combined. Even if it has merit, it's still somewhat sickening.

Where did I say we'd beat them? I was just comparing the forwards on paper. I didn't even say Canada's better on paper, just that it's close(I'd take Europe as others have said already). To illustrate how sick Canada's forward group is this year. I also mentioned how our goaltending wasn't very good, so it's not like I'm talking how Canada's going to stomp the world here.

The American forward group is very high end as well. On paper they're pretty neck and neck with Canada's top 6. I think the depth falls off a bit after that but still some solid players. Canada's got a solid D group lead by Byram/Drysdale but I think Sweden's better there and Finland USA could be as well as it plays out. We're pretty easily last of the top 5 teams in net on paper.

I think you're reading more into a post than was actually there. Anyone can lose on any day really. Once you get to the medal round it doesn't matter how good you are on paper.

Sorry bud, I wasn't intending to start an argument or make a jab at your post. The comparison actually has merit I think as well; the depth of talent at camp is absolutely sick. I'm just looking at how even considering such a thing may come across from the viewpoint of a fan from another country.

Korczak was really good and should be on the team for sure. It seems like they'll run a Byram Drysdale pairing but Schneider or Korczak on the top pair with Byram would be a much better fit. Should be obvious the 7 dmen will be Byram, Drysdale, Harley, Schneider, Guhle, Korczak and Robertson. Personally I'd go with pairings of Byram-Korczak Harley-Schneider Guhle/Robertson-Drysdale

I think there is about zero chance Drysdale plays on the 3rd pairing. Not even a little one. I personally also think Barron will end up making it over Robertson but I don't think either way is egregious.

I was also surprised that they went with a Byram Drysdale pairing. It seemed obvious to split them up but we'll see how it shakes out. It's also worth noting that the team can take 8 defencemen this year.

Probably its better that way to evaluate some of the other guys.

Perfetti was pretty anonymous out there. I'd expect him to pick things up over the course of these games.
He was a bit quiet early, but as the game progressed he was perhaps the best Red forward. He was driving a ton of transition and offense in the 3rd.

I increasingly feel like the chances of Lafreniere coming are not great. Good thing is I think this team is talented enough to win it without him.
I just find it hard to believe that the NHL can get the League up and running by January 1st. Having said that, they've surprised me before.

When I wrote it I knew it might look bad to an outsider. I guess that's why I felt so defensive because I was prepared for the backlash.

Is Shane Wright likely to make this team?

I’d peg it at 50-50. The coach has said if you didn’t know his age you wouldn’t know he was 16, he doesn’t look out of place at all at camp according to the coach.

There are some benefits to keeping team continuity year over year and that involves taking a younger phenom and every now and again.

With that said, there is more NHL talent available for this team than in other years. It’s tough to guess I don’t think any of us know with certainty.
