From a Calgary Flames perspective:

Amazing effort late in the game by Jakob Pelletier, who set up Hendrix Lapierre for what seemed like an easy goal but got absolutely robbed.

Pelletier was fantastic all game and even had a fantastic 3-on-5 PK shift where he won the faceoff clean allowing his D-man to send it down the ice.

Connor Zary had a pretty good game (one assist plus a few very nice scoring chances) but Pelletier was definitely up there as one of the most noticeable players all game, although to be fair, that is to be expected considering he was part of the QMJHL group that had the benefit of their season starting much sooner.

Here is the 1st-period assessment:

Turnovers by players:
Zary
Robertson's poor breakout pass.

Defensemen joining the rush:
Hunt

Bad penalty :
Millman

Great passing plays:
McMichael on 2 on 1

Players looking quick and in tune with the games:

Byfield
Krebs
Byram
Lapierre
Rees

Players looking slow:
Bechman

I think Poulin was arguably the best player on the top line today.

This team is going to have plenty of speed, defense, shooting, and grit. Need puck handling and IQ. Dach, Byfield, and maybe Perfetti and Lapierre have to provide that. Drysdale and Byram from the back end.

The sad but true reality of the situation. Up there with the USports games and hoping for the university announcer to mention which player did what once every few minutes.
Is it just myself but I watch these every year and it always seems like the players look much worse playing in these scrimmage and usports game than they normally do with club teams or even in the tournament itself? Maybe it’s the lack of quality in the feed or hard to tell whose who, but I always feel disappointed with the game in the scrimmages. I just did watch tonight’s game on demand and it the picture was great, zero complaints and nice commentary as well.

I think it has a lot to due with the quality of competition. Canada has so much depth that they could send two gold medal contending teams. For most of these players the competition is much better than the league they play and is even better than a lot of the tournament teams. Better more equal competition makes it much harder to shine and stand out.

Editted... You were fast

let that be a lesson for you. when Team Canada juniors are streaming anything, even an informal PK run through in the lobby of the hotel before boarding a bus to get to the arena, thousands of Team Canada fans have this site on 15 second refresh.

You could tell him that basically everyone hasn't played a hockey game since March.
Be very interesting what the game looks like tonight.

Deadline for Lafreniere apparently.

It probably isn't relevant that the returnees stood out, but I agree that Gonalves, Krebs, and Pelletier were good. Harley was just fine, though I figure that he's on the team already.

Newhook is on the way.
