WJC: 2021 Canada Roster Talk

Maybe we'll get lucky. As I have said before, if I was the Rangers, I'd let him play at the WJR's and have Laf join the NHL team in mid January.
 
I think the Rangers are just waiting until there is more clarity over when the season will start. If it is an early January start then I would be shocked if he comes, late January and they probably release him.

Whenever I watch last year's WJR's GMG, I'm amazed how lucky we were. In the last 5 minutes, EVERYTHING went right :

* Thomas' amazing goal.
* TSN's camera saving the day - should have been a 5 on 3.
* The stick lift - deja vu, all over again.
* The broken stick.
* Playing with a broken stick.

The opposite of the 3rd period in Buffalo in 2011 when everything went wrong.

Hockey Gods, I guess.

The later we get into 2020, the harder it is to believe the NHL will start in early January. It is 2 months away from the end of the WJR's and, to the best of my knowledge, no NHL schedule has been set. That's a "BIG ask" in 2 months - especially with Christmas.

Let Laf and Hughes play.

I predict that my boy Shane Wright will make the WJC squad as a 16 year old. He is that special. All the guys leaving him off their rosters are going to eat some crow.

The best part is that TSN's camera is eligible to return to Edmonton 2021.

luck had nothing to do with it the Russians were the cause of their own demise.

It's hard to imagine an early January start to the NHL season. Especially with Christmas. The players would have to quarantine and practice during the Holiday Season - the players being unable to see their families during Christmas won't go over well.

If the NHL is going to bubble, where will they bubble? Edmonton is already being used for the WJR's, the U.S. has cases everywhere.

If they are NOT going to bubble, teams need time to schedule flights, hotels, etc. They also need time to sell tickets, arrange promotions, etc.

Too much to do in too little time. An early February start seems more likely. If I was the NHL, I'd go with February 1st.

He was 50/50 to make the team anyway. It’s unfortunate but definitely the best decision for himself.

EDIT: Yeah, based on the wording of the article, it sounds like Power won't be joining at all.

Regardless of what ends up happening with Power, you just know that there are people within Hockey Canada ready to crap on NCAA players next time camp invitations go out.
