Curious about what people think of Poulin's chances. Does he make the team?

Hard to say, I'd guess that he won't make it but a good camp could put him there. It would help him a lot if Cozens was used at centre and freed up a RW spot. I like his game in the QMJHL a lot and if those picking the team want a physical element for the small ice that helps him a lot as well.

I do not think that is a potentially better trio. At all.
Canadas top end is better, Turcotte is the weak link for the USA in this regard he might not even play in Canadas top 9. For my money id take Newhook, McMichael, Quinn and Perfetti over him without thinking twice. If you want to make an elite top 3 for the USA Robertson should be the third. Plus Canada has better depth up front and a better D core. Only place the USA is better is in net. Goaltending is the great equilizer, Knight could certainly be the difference in a one game elimination. If they played a best of 7 I really like Canadas chances, however thats not the format.
What if there was a team with a potentially better trio, Hughes, Turcotte, and Zegras, for instance with the best goaltender in the tournament (Knight)? Hasn’t that team been consistently better than Canada in this 2001 age group?
No it hasnt because they have never had to beat them because they are never actually together.

Saw you didnt have Quinn on Canada either. Cant wait to watch him torch team USA.

Turcotte is no way, shape, or form a "weak link." What a laughable take.

I don't believe it's neither, but you don't typically look at these things through a NCAA lens.
He should be allowed to play at the World Juniors.

P.S. Double negative in the first half of your sentence. (Not being a jerk just FYI - it messes up what you're trying to say in the second half of the sentence - "I don't believe it's either")

He isnt close to as good as the players in that conversation. So yes if you wanna match him up to Dach, Lafreniere, Cozens etc he isnt the same level player.

I don't think the schools should be influencing whether players come or do not come to the tournament. If Power makes the decision on his own then more power to him, everyone has their own priorities and at the end of the day we are going to have a good defense regardless. But if he wants to come he should be at camp.

Depends on whether he got a scholarship or not. If he has a scholarship, I can see the school's side.

Having said that, I agree, the student should have the final say and, if I was Power, I would threaten to transfer schools if they held me back. After all, with a good performance he could very well be the #1 pick in the NHL draft = a LOT of money.

Yeah, that will go over well.

Has a player ever been held back by the NCAA?

Didn't an American player get held back recently?

The lack of fans will help Knight. He started getting ventilated against us when we switched ends and a few Canadians were getting real creative with the trash talk.

I mean Michigan needs Power more then Power needs Michigan. Realistically he will be a top 10 pick in next years draft if he doesn't play a game this year.
Exactly. Other schools would be love to have him (if it can be worked out) and there is always the option of the CHL.

There has to be a middle ground where both Power and Michigan are happy because I doubt he wants to leave and I doubt they want to lose him.

Do you really think Power would bail on Michigan because of the WJCs? You're projecting as a fan of Team Canada.

Re : "You're projecting as a fan of Team Canada."

Probably. It doesn't mean I'm wrong.

I still think he should go to the WJR's. If Power was an American, I'm sure you would feel the same way.

Besides, if Covid doesn't go away, is his coach going to stop him next year as well when he could be a top pair D man? As a player, he needs to decide what's best for himself.

I’m not saying anything is certain, but around the 38 min mark of this interview, Tourigny was asked if he knew whether Lafrenière would be back and he said he couldn’t answer. When asked “but will you let anyone wear the number 11” he said, with much laughter, “No”.

Are you just going to overlook the fact that Michigan is providing the kid with a $70,000 a year scholarship, room and board, meals and books? Pretty sure that school has some influence here.
