He literally backstopped the Devils to the cup finals in 2012. That's pretty impressive for a guy that was toast for the previous 4 years. During the time Elliott was hurt, Allen played 10 games and Broduer played 7 but 2 were because Allen had to be pulled. I get that you seem to dislike Broduer but trying to defend the below stats by saying by the end of the year he had a 913sv% is letting him off the hook for when he was needed most. There was only a short window when Elliott was injured and neither Allen nor Broduer played like a #1 but after watching Allen shit the bed game after game they should have given Broduer a real shot. The dude was in his 40's and had no training camp and came out of basically retirement to play and put up similar if not slightly better numbers than Allen at the time and that's absolutely pathetic on Allens part.

I love brodeur, but theres a reason he wasnt signed before us and a reason he didnt pickup anywhere to finish getting his wins after us.
Allen wasngiven the shot to work outnofnhis slump because we were planning on him being our future goalie. Brodeur was past his prime and even if he did okay, we werent gonna bring back the following year. Since the blues made the playoffs anyway, starting allen didnt cost them anything and was definitely the right long term move.
Brodeur wasnt in his 20s anymore.
Now allen failed to be our long term goalie, but you still dont bench your future goalie in a slump for a guy who was unsigned and in hisn40s unless that guy is playing amazing. Thats notnhow you run a franchise. Brodeur wasnt so they stayed with allen despite the worse numbers during that stretch simce brodeurs weremt exavtly lighting the world on fire in his starts either.
Additionally, brodeur was in his 40s and as ylu said had no training camp. He probably wasnt even in shape enough at that point to handle the lions share of starts
