If Clifford gets picked up off waivers I'd just like to say it was an honor to watch Blues hockey for the last year and some change.

Also I learned that Justin Faulk is pretty damn good.
Hey, the Kings are good enough to watch closely again now.

I could see the Rangers claim Clifford if Blais is out long term.

Kinda feel bad for a guy like Clifford to maybe have to go play in the AHL, but maybe he’ll get claimed.

He was just never impressive. For a physical guy, he had some of the most worthless physicality I’ve seen. He was pretty good in LA but here, his hits never seemed to cause turnovers or do anything good. He would just run around and bump guys after they already got rid of the puck and that’s about it. Pretty disappointing and not needed.

Teams love having those physical vets around and I have no doubt he's "good in the room." But with our depth, we rarely needed him in the lineup. He was somewhat underwhelming but I think he did his job well enough. Unfortunately for him, Kostin can provide the physicality and obviously has much better offensive ability so there really isn't a spot for Clifford for the foreseeable future. I hope he gets picked up by a young up-and-coming team that could use a little veteran grit.

Coach needs to use this as a case study. If you want the best from Thomas, get him ice time. Thomas is playing better than Schenn has this year, so respond accordingly by not taking away Thomas’ ice time when Schenn is back. ROR and Schenn can split time. I really think we need to conserve RORs ice time to maintain his endurance as he ages.

What I mean by the Schenn injury not telling the whole story shows when you look at Thomas' ice time for his 14 GP chronologically

15:02
18:52
19:19 ROR out COVID-19 protocols
19:58
22:40
21:43 Schenn injury in first.
20:33 ROR returns.

21:34
21:08

5 gp with under 1 min PKing
6 gp with over 2 min PKing

7 gp with under 1 min PP time
5 gp with over 2 min PP time

Thomas' uptick in ice time predates the ROR absence by 1 game, but having ROR and/or Schenn out creates the opportunity for him to have increased ice time.

Thomas' production has always been in clusters historically, which is why I have doubts that he maintains a PPG pace all season, even if he holds onto the more favourable deployment when Schenn returns. He puts up multi-point games and then goes pointless for a few games - I have him on 2 separate dynasty league fantasy pools. Scoring consistency is something I monitor closely given his lack of peripherals in our scoring categories.

One thing that is nice to see is Thomas' PP unit is getting more favourable deployment coming out first, recognizing their success over the ROR PP unit of late.

Edit: TOI details can be looked at here

It should also be noted that I'm not putting the Krug injury in here, which is notable because Thomas gets an increased role in our transition game with Krug out - due to his positive effect on zone entry success rate.

Also of note is that we're 4-4-2 in our last 10 GP. ROR and/or Schenn have missed time in 9 of the past 10 elevating Thomas in our lineup - which through his play or our 3rd line being weaker likely correlates to our lower winning percentage in that span (conjecture, without statistical basis here).

Clifford was admittedly better than I expected him to be when we signed him, but he doesn’t really bring anything that we don’t already have in spades.

LMAO!!! I have no idea!!! And I will not allow my brain to work for the answer.

Others?
They already made capspace by waiving Clifford. Tomorrow after they announce waiver claims and assign Clifford to Springfield (unless another team picked him up) they can activate Sunny.

Is that all? Just remove Clifford and Sunny is back? That seems way too simple with all of this COVID bullshit.

Clifford was on the COVID protocol, so I guess that makes more sense now.

Blues already sent down Joshua, Rosen, and Hofer when they called up Perunovich. That left the Blues needing to send down a minimum of 907k to activate Sunny. Waiving Clifford and sending him down is 1mil. So now when they activate Sunny they'll have a 93k buffer.

Maybe closest to full roster thus far tonight - or shortly as the healthy return. Lines?

2 5'9" D that need sheltering as our #1 and #2 LD?

Seems that’s how Doug likes it - can also include Dunn in that idea. He’s drafting and signing this type of player. I’ll be bored later and check out how his Stars teams looked on the backend.
