Dubas was a universal genius till Jack started falling apart.

I remember all too clearly, the Leafs never having anyone all that great in the prospect pool.

It was awful, this guy has prospects all over the place, despite having very few high end picks.

Maybe I am wrong, but I think he would be snapped up in a heartbeat if we were foolish enough to fire him.

Shanahan probably not. Lol.

I think Knies is our top prospect, and its not even close.

@57, that is a joke.

I dunno about rushing him, against men this year, Antropov comes to mind.

Say what you will about Dubas but the man knows how to draft well
That's what I wonder about. Despite the Leafs failures in the playoffs... which sure you could make an argument it's partly on Dubas for the top 4 guys contracts, not enough toughness, d certain years, goaltending this year possibly.

Every year though the guys on the ice put up an amazing season and crumble when the pressure is on... its more in their own heads than anything.
They need to learn to win when it's on the line. The GM sure can't put on the blades for a game 7. Plenty of times they could of and should of won.

I'm not saying Dubas has been perfect at all but I do think he's one of the better GMs and I know people laugh at the nice guy thing and treating players right but it does go a long way. He still tries to make a big trade or does a shakeup when needs be too. It's back fired sometimes but sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make.

Time will tell. He's definitely a great drafter though and if the Leafs fail again then he'll probably lose his job but I wouldn't put it all on him.

I think the biggest thing this playoffs over anything comes down to is Matthews and Marner playing like they stars that they are. If they do that... Leafs will break through.

Sorry way off topic in this thread... Knies is awesome though too lol

Im not sure if hes NHL ready but i waited the day we see him in the line up.

In watched minnesota university game last night and he remembered me a kind of Milan Lucic with more skill.

Is it Dubas or our Scouting Team now? not really sure who makes the overall decisions
does Dubas have alot to do with it or is he just the guy that calls out the players name?
Both. Dubas did get the scouting staff in place like promoting Morrison which was questionable at the time. The scouting guys scout, but in the end Dubas makes the call on who to draft. He also makes decisions on trade up/down scenarios.

Obviously the scouts do most of the leg work but he put the scouting team together and would provide them with the direction. Then together make they final decision on players.

Exciting player, with the one caveat being the NCAA, it’s so hard to extrapolate what you’re seeing. Cautiously optimistic.

Not that it matters one bit, but as in intellectual exercise - I wonder where he would go if there were to be a re-draft today.

I think you can extrapolate more here than in the CHL. They are playing against men which means their play is closer to being NHL ready than we think. It shows when you get those late bloomers and other college players coming out of the NCAA and becoming successful NHLers.
