Tonight is a perfect example of how the Comets are picking up losses on a 50-50 basis of late over the past 18 games or so. The great chances they are used to burying are not going in so the goals scored by the opponent that used to be cancelled out by the Comets' own are the difference in many of these games.

Comets winning % was .700 going into tonight's game. A loss would lower their % below .700 for the first time this season.

After the whistle scrap and it's McGrath and MacLean.

Penalty was coming to the Comets and have to wait to see what's c oming. Gambardella and Andreoff getting an explanation from the refs and then the 2 have to be separated as they didn't like how things were being discussed by each other. LOL

McGrath was ejected? Comets down for 4 minutes. If the Isles capitalize on this you can roll up the carpet on this one.

Schmid has already made 2 big ones with 3:24 yet to go.

McGrath and MacLean 5 each for fighting.

McGrath in addition 2 for boarding, 2 for instigating, and a 10 minute misconduct.

The guy bis still pointless but his penalty total has grown to 53 minutes.

Comets kill off the 4 minutes to keep their chances alive. Slim with 10:11 to go but alive nonetheless.

TV TO.

Empty net for the Comets with 2:31 to go.

Now Schmid is back.
Looking for lightning 2 games in a row. Don't like their chances.

This one is in the books. 4-1 Isles.

Yeah, so he should go down to Utica to play and show that he belongs. What is refusing to report going to do?
No idea. I agree with you he should report. Better to be playing somewhere than to play nowhere.

I just meant that I feel for a guy who’s career is hanging on by a thread. Heck, Siegenthaler could have been Jaros. He was press boxed by the Caps for most of last year and had to request a trade. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out with on organization for whatever reason.

Good luck to him wherever he goes next.

I mean it sucks that he isn't good enough to play more but I certainly don't think this is the way to go about it for a guy who is essentially on his last legs as far as having a NHL career.

Comets 8-10 in the last 18. 0-2 on this 3-game home stand and 3 in a row..

I'm counting shootout and OT losses as what they are, losses. Points don't mean squat this season, it's Winning %s that decide your position. OT and Shootout losses make that % drop.

Zetterlund no goals in the last 7 GP
Holtz no goals in the last 6 GP.

The team has scored 1 even strength goal in the last 3 games and have only scored 5 in that period.
1 ES
1 SH
1 PP
2 6 on 5 with their goalie on the bench.

They have scored 2 or less in 9 of the of the 10 losses and 1 was a shutout. They scored 3 in the other 1.

Zetterlund was on the ice for all 4 goals against tonight. The only forward out there for more than 1 of them was Gauthier, 2, and 1 of them was on the PK where Gauthier is usually paired with Greer.

This is more than a slump. It is a major skid. They have 16 games left before the playoffs. The last thing they want to do is carry on like this for those 16 games. You want to go into the playoffs playing very well or your time there will be short.

N.J. has done nothing to improve their roster headed to the playoffs other than paper down Daws.
Apparently Thompson can play in the playoffs due to some kind of rule dealing with LTIR. (Yes?) He would be a big addition if he plays the way he was when he got called up.
Jaros was supposed to be here already, but apparently has decided not to honor his 2-way and has been suspended. Maybe that gets worked out, but as of right now there is no Jaros. The kid that played tonight instead of Jaros was lost to say the least.

At least Bahl and Greer will be back

I've seen the multiple papered players on other AHL rosters and it has been impressive. Other teams have also received players as the result of the TDL moves by their NHL parents and free agent NCAA and JR ATO/PTO signings and there will be more. NJ could probably do something there. However, unless those guys are top of the top in their respective leagues, they will not be impact players on an AHL roster in the playoffs off the get go. There are no easy games to allow them get their feet wet.

Brodeur’s bobblehead is one of two that the Comets are set to give out this season. The other bobblehead is scheduled to be given out during the team’s fan appreciation week later in April. The subject of the bobblehead has not been announced, but it is anticipated to be another well-known member of the organization.

Other promotions

The Comets’ promotional schedule also includes a “Roaring 20s Night” with a nod to the 1920s on Saturday, April 16 against Belleville.

The team is set to wear a special jersey that includes a “tie-in” to Utica’s past. The team has not yet unveiled the jersey.

“I think it is a jersey everyone is going to love,” Esche said.

And, as the team prepares to celebrate its 10th AHL season in 2022-23, the Comets are also set to give out a special jersey featuring 10 stars with the team’s shield logo to the 3,000 season-ticket holders. Each jersey will be authenticated with a specific number, Esche said.

“It just feels like the right timing for everything,” Esche said.

Devils seemed to have decided against papering Mercer and Smith. Mercer makes sense given he's played every game and is likely ticketed to the World Championships. AHL playoffs after his first full NHL season would be grueling for him. I am surprised they didn't want Smith to get a playoff run though.

After that, their options seem pretty limited with waiver restrictions on players like Boqvist and White. I think the only outside help would be Stillman or Mukhmadullin as both already signed ELCs. Muk may not even be possible at this point. Possibly Moynihan or another college UFA but I don't see how any of those guys move the needle for Utica.
