This team has really got the wrong kind of momentum. Hopefully they can turn it around before the playoffs.

They're not a great AHL team. It's very hard for a team like this - with so many young players - to be a great AHL team. They've been riding the percentages all year.

Injury updates

Forwards Chase De Leo (undisclosed) and Nolan Foote (upper-body) each skated Tuesday.

De Leo – who has missed the last four games – is “probable most likely” for Wednesday’s game, Dineen said.

Foote – who has missed three consecutive games – is expected back next week, according to Dineen.

Holtz has two assists and no goals in his last 5 games, no points the past two games. Only the second time all year he’s gone two games without a point.

Nothing to be worried about, but indicative of Utica’s current struggles.

Should be happy that he was able to sit up with the big club all year getting paid.
I know this is an off-handed comment, but it's really not fair.

His career is basically in the balance. Poor guy ended up playing only a handful of games. That's a very hard situation to succeed in. If the Devils don't qualify him, he's UFA. Maybe he ends up needing to take a two-way contract. Or he may be out of the league.

Yeah, so he should go down to Utica to play and show that he belongs. What is refusing to report going to do?

So Bahl and Greer get earned look sees in NJ particularly Greer.

After the Schmelzer1st period injury Monday, the Comets already playing with only 11 forwards at the tinme due to injuries to Deleo and Foote and the trade of Schnarr, played the rest of the games with only 10 up front. Greer's absence will mean only 9 up front.

Deleo is likely to return tonight and he replaces Greer and the gives the Comets 10 forwards.

Foote not expected back until next week.

The answer for the still needed 2 forward spots? Tyler Irvine (11 GP with 1G and 2A) and Patrick Grasso (1 GP and 0 Pts). Neither has impressed at all in their previous time here.

I haven't seen it posted that Schmelzer will play. His return to the lineup would be a big plus.

If Deleo and Schmelzer are able to go the Comets would have 12 forwards with only the completely inept Patrick McGrath (0 Pts in 20 GP) in the lineup.
If they can't, McGrath would be joined by Irvine and Grasso! Pathetic to call those 3 the "depth forwards" for any AHL team!

Defensively, the loss of Bahl would have been ably filled with the addition of Christian Jaros, waived, cleared , and assigned to Utica. Problem with that is, as has been mentioned, he refused to report and was subsequently suspended. He signed a 2-way contract and now refuses to honor the terms of said contract.

So, the Comets signed D-man Tim Theocharidis to the roster on a PTO. He is a 4-yr NCAA product signed to a free agent contract by the Adirondack Thunder. He played 4 games there and has ) Pts and is a -1. He played 3 seasons with NCAA D-I Bowling Green University averaging 11 Pts/season in 103 GP over those 3 seasons. He left Bowling Green to play his Sr. season at the NCAA hockey powerhouse at D-I Arizona State University where he recorded 15 Pts/35GP.

The Comets have Russo, Walsh, Vukojevic, Wotherspoon, Groleau, and Okhotiuk provided OK is healthy to go so Theo (as I will now always use to refer to
Theocharidis) gets to be the "depth" D.

The absence of any valuable depth on this roster is ridiculous. It has been an issue all season. I have called out the Devils for this ineptitude since day 1. AHL teams almost to a team carry at least 2 D and 3 F with AHL abilities and most have been AHL players. They can step in and competently fill the roles they are asked to play. The Comets have used Patrick McGrath, Tyler Irvine, Luke Stevens, Nick Rivera up front. Joe Masonius and Christopher Lijdsman, have been used on D.

Forwards:
McGrath the most traveled player with 129 AHL GP through 8 years and as 9 total points, with 7 of them having come before 2018-19.
Irvine is a 2nd year pro with 36 AHL GP and 7 Pts.
Rivera also a 2nd yr pro has 9 AHL GP all with Utica this season, 1A.
Stevens has 16 AHL GP, 4 this season with Utica and 0 Pts .

D-men
Lijdsman is 30 yrs old and his AHL resume is 1GP this season with Utica.
Masonius is a 4th yr pro and his only AHL GP were 3 this year with Utica, 0 Pts.

The Comets have 7 games in the next 11 days with no more than 1 day off between games and it includes 2 back to backs. They definitely have their work cut out for them and their slump in scoring from the expected scorers isn't helping.

No Schmelzer or Foote - both injured.

On D Groleau is injured.

Thus the call-ups are all in the lineup.
