Robertson is a Perreault level prospect IMO (because of injuries Robertson goes down a bit for me to Perreault level prospect; he's small and has had a lot of injuries). I much prefer Knies he's perfect for Zegras or Terry.

Gonna get heat for this but I'm ok with it, lol..

Not all players quit on their team even when they are going through a rebuild. They play harder and try to still win. This is why I have mad respect for Getzlaf. He could have chased another cup like Perry, but he decided to stay even when things were looking bad.

Now, players who ask for trades because of a stalemate in the organization like with a GM or coach, or not getting ice time or opportunities like being pushed aside for depth or youth is one thing. But for a player to want to leave only to win and leave his team behind, have no respect for that player.

Yeah I definitely posed it as a question for a reason, it's definitely no given that he would want out by any means. Every player has different motivations and intentions. I'm only certain it wouldn't be an easy decision for him at all, even if he did start to feel like he wants to use the rest of his prime trying to push for a ring.

I rather just trade him to someone else for a higher pick than getting Robertson as the main piece tbh.

Heres the player for those that haven't seen him much:

A late 1st and Robertson is an extrememly underwhelming deal. Would rather keep him and wait for a team to pony up atleast one A prospect or first half of the 1st pick
The problem is the teams in first half won’t do it for gibson, and the contenders won’t trade their top prospect.

We all prefer knies, no question… unfortunately gibsons dtats def gunna prevent that…. I guess I could see knies involved if we retained on gibson or were willing to add comtois

I know in the short run this will suck, but Gibson's body language and him checking out , is not what you want for a young rebuilding team. Fowler had one of his best seasons in a rebuilding year. It was near impossible for him to carry the entire Top 4 after Lindholm and Manson left, did the best he could in those scenarios. Verbeek needs to get him an ideal partner, along with Drysdale as well to me that is more critical than adding a Top 6 forward.

I still think the Ducks will be competitive again in 2-3 years. A lot depends how the kids progress, who they draft the next two seasons, how vets like Fowler age, and what support Verbeek adds this and next summer. Next year is going to be painful and will be all about player development and that's fine. But if the vets are willing to fight it out next year, and maybe have hope for the following season, then it's all good. Gibson has already made up his mind, doesn't have the patience to see through this rebuild, and is willing to be traded so he can win.

Toronto is not the only team that will be making offers.

And if Toronto wants Gibson (not sure they do), then offering Robertson but refusing to include Knies would be idiotic. Their window is the next 2-3 years during which time Knies is not going to be a contributor. I think the pressure is on Dubas to go all in - as it should be.

LOL at the don't "look into Gibson's body language" crowd and those dismissing Gibson's own comments about not wanting lose anymore....and yet being on a team that is bad and likely going to be bad.

This was always likely headed for a divorce unless PV had big plans to try and turn this team into a contender this year (which I think was likely never his intention).

Am I the only one who doesn't equate sn opened to being moved as a desire to be moved?

My god. Why would he let the team know he was open to being moved, but didn't want to. Thats like telling your boss your open to being fired, but you like your job and hope you aren't terminated.

Note: I don't think Gibson wants to be traded anywhere, but I do think he would like to be moved to a team that is competitive.

Getzlaf did this. Honestly it's a situation that makes sense with players with NTCs. The team could have asked him if he would be open to waving, and he can say yes or no. That's far different than him going to management and asking to be traded.

I think Gibson will stick it out another year or two, and if he doesn't see them turning the ship will then maybe want out. But like you said a lot depends on what Verbeek does to right this ship. Plus, his agent just shot down any speculation he was looking to move or open to moving.

Because he's open to the idea? It doesn't mean he does t like it here? I think your comparison is off too. It's more akin to a transfer than getting fired.

Doesn't really mean much to me. Teams aren't going to want this stuff public and there are more examples than I can count of a team saying they have no interest in moving a player who was then moved. We will see what happens.

Not surprising, there's been a ton of smoke this offseason. I know I might be in the minority, but I think we will make more off of Gibson's reputation than his current worth to the club.

It's still a bummer though. Gibson is one of the last links to our previously elite roster and at his best is a top three guy in the league.
Let's hope you are right. Perhaps desperation will enable Verbeek to take someone to the cleaners.
