let's see
one was a playoff elimination game in which I am evaluating a 27 year old ufas play who is getting force fed offensive time in every situation despite mistakes compounding mistakes, and lazy ones at that
the others are random one-off games throughout the regular season by teenagers (not even playing tonight) who we are supposed to be breaking into the league who get their playing time limited if they so much as look at the water bottles the wrong way
yeah i wonder why we look at the two thru a different lens and why I'm not here retroactively attacking everyone under 24
You want to talk about an odd concept, it's the one where in the GDT where mentioning AA's shit play on the night triggers a bunch of posters into lashing out at the offensive prospects.
Byfield is a teenager and as someone else said in a post above me, he still has time to keep on the 1st line path, it just needs to show through in some way next season. Saying Byfield sucked this year and saying he still has a chance to be a 1st liner are not mutually exclusive thoughts. But for you I feel like it is, you just fought so hard to not see what was right in front of your eyes. QB was not good this year and it was because QB himself played bad. It wasn't his linemates (he stunk with everyone) or the coaches (he was given a long leash with the linemates you wanted). Yes, he is still a kid and it doesn't doom him to not having a good NHL career, but lets call a spade a spade, he was not a good player for the Kings this year.
I brought up the GDT's because you lay into AA every one of them, which is fine, many nights (like last night) he deserved it. Everyone has players they don't like, yours is clearly AA and players they really probably like to much. For me its probably Moore and Spence, for you I think you tend to give way to much of a favorable analysis based on a players age.
Can I ask you an honest question. Who in your opinion had a better season this year for the Kings, Gabe Vilardi or AA? No context, no excuses, no age. Who was the better player this season for the Kings? I just don't understand why one player gets dumped so much while another player with basically across the board worse metrics is who many want to play.
That is fair, but Kopi has definitely lost a step. He just looks like he's been laboring this season. Remember his rookie year when he blew by Pronger?
He was 19 then, playing his first game in the NHL. He is almost 35 now with 1200+ NHL games under his belt. Father time has been slowly creeping up on AK and this year it was really noticeable with his lack of speed.
I think Kopi's age was one area that kind of caught much of our fanbase off guard. I think there was a sort of denial that he was entering his mid-30's and many just assumed he'd pull a Bergeron and keep playing at a high level. But just like talking about 1 guy like Wheeler as a reason to have the patience of a saint with prospects when for every 1 Wheeler there are 20 who aren't, people will use Bergeron and Crosby as their reasons why Kopitar was going to keep it up when for every Bergeron and Crosby there are a dozen guys who fell off long before. And we are actually pretty lucky with AK, he lasted way longer than many of his contemporaries. He is better at 34 than Getzlaf was, than Staal was, than Carter was, he has aged better than Toews. Richards obviously collapsed at 28, Kesler was done by 34.
The Kopitar as the 1C in the 2022 playoffs is a Rob Blake and Mark Yanetti issue, not an Anze Kopitar one. He is still playing well enough to be a pretty good 2nd line center in this league and a championship caliber 3rd line one. It's not Kopi's job to find his replacement. I think the attacks on him and his play are a bit unfair to be honest. He is being asked to play a role he is not equipped to play anymore.
