LMAO.
McDavid at $12,5 has yet to win more than a playoff series.
His $12.5M salary costs the 2nd and 3rd line, or the 2nd pairing D.

If Danault can play McDavid to a draw - now you've got $7.5M to spend on defense or forwards down the lineup.
If Danault could play McDavid to a draw he'd get $12.5M as well. McDavid had 4 points last night.

I love Danault, he's exceed my highest hopes for how good he'd be and he's been the best Kings player this season. His contract is looking like a bargain, at least for now. But I'd rather watch the best player on the planet play for my team every night. You're telling me if the Oilers offered McDavid for Danault in the offseason straight up you'd pass? I mean that's being ridiculous. He's 25, he can still learn to be a winner. He might still be one right now for all I know, he could torch us the next two games and go on to win the cup, scoring 50 points in the process.

And the team lost.

Because it's not a hockey team out there.
It's the McDavid and Drai show.

And it kind of has to be when you play 15 percent of your cap hit to one man.

It's not laughable at all.
It just goes against the narrative. And some people can't think beyond the narrative.
Some people's hot take against the narrative thinking is a joke . Like it was stated before, you want a Danault with McDavid, instead of a Draisaitl. McDavid is a generational talent in his prime, it's not his fault the Oilers GM doesn't have a clue how to build around him

Believe me, with how the Kings have been constructed--both then and now--everyone here understands you, they just disagree.

We fought this battle for Kopitar for years, ie I'd rather have a guy score 70 and turn your 100 pt scorer into a 50 pt scorer than the 100 pt scorer straight up. But McDavid is better than even that.

Now if you say Draisaitl or Eichel or basically anyone but McDavid (and maybe Matthews), I think you'll find near-unanimous agreement.

It's nothing to do with narrative and everything to do with effectiveness.

Edit: actually, good example. I would have taken prime Kopitar over any center in the league except a healthy prime crosby. Even over Malkin, due to injury and inconsistency.

The oilers have done a shit job building a team. That is all.
Everyone knew the Oilers needed to improve the Goaltending and Defense the last two seasons. What have they done? Re-signed Russell and Smith (twice?). Brought in one dimensional Barrie, brought in Keith with no retention, brought in more wingers and called it a day. I would be pissed if I was Katz. If the Oilers had Danault and not McDavid they would have wasted the cap space on OEL.

To swap this out, imagine if LA had McDavid over Kopitar just looking at this years team, not past. This issue in Edmonton is the building of the team. Edmonton needs to move Leon who is one dimensional for a D and a goalie.

You can't do much when you're stuck with a $12.5M guy in a flat cap world.

Danault helped lead the Habs to the finals last year.
He comes to LA and their point percentage jumps .150%

Now he and the Kings are 1 game away from beating McDavid.

Show me all the ways McDavid leads his team to winning?

And the Kings have 13.5% committed to a guy who is not even playing. That doesn't seem to be stopping them.

McDavid is 15.3% of the team cap hit while Kopitar is 12.3% and Doughty is 13.5% It all relative and not an issue for the team.

The guy is a gamer and just 25 years old. Anyone who wouldn't want him is plum loco, holmes.

Not sure why everyone is pissing on McDavid, when every single one of you, would have traded Kopitar and Danault, threw in Byfield and Turcotte and added Clarke in a heartbeat....

McDavid is top 3 in the league, hands down, no argument, you have McDavid, Matthews, then you can make arguments for McKinnon, Barkov, Huberdeau, Marner, etc...

Anyone think McDavid is the reason why the Oilers are where they are.....can't be much done to help you in that thought process....

And that's not counting special teams.

Your job as GM is to fill the rest of the roster with guys who can even just break even.

They've failed at that, not McDavid. If anything, Draisaitl is the guy who should be riding the bus out of town, what a worthless piece of expensive trash.

f*** that noise.
When McDavid wins something, sure.

What happens this offseason if the Oilers lose?
Holland fired.
Rumors of a pissed off superdiva who thinks he deserves more.

Where else did we see this?
Eichel. Buffalo.

It's not just about "generational" talent.
It's about cap value. It's about team chemistry.
It's about having 20 guys skating in the same direction.

On ESPN they were talking about the Oilers playing a game without a team identity yesterday. And I knew exactly what they're talking about.
It's a McDavid/Drai vehicle - not a real hockey team.

I agree.

Nuclear hot take.

Jordan went YEARS without even getting to the finals.
After changing his game.

See, not too difficult to understand, right?

There is no desire or push to evolve for McDavid. Just excuse after excuse from the player, management, media and fans instead of looking at the reality, which is you don't win without making the right, safe plays when needed.

The OT goal last night was the perfect example. McDavid's line is defending for an entire extended shift, gets a loose puck and instead of dumping it in and getting the exhausted defense a change, they try to make a play at the blueline and all three forwards got beat by one pass and an older, tired player got beat wide.

That was choosing flash over substance and it cost them a pivotal game.

Not nuclear. Just right.

Wait--so you're admitting there's another problem here.

I agree.

You see why Trotz was let go? Didn't see eye-to-eye with Barzal.
This is the way in the NHL.
The bigger the star, the less clout a coach has to bend him to the program.

Dave Tippett was one of those Babcock/Hitchcock clones.
He couldn't get these guys to do anything but play run-and-gun hockey.
This new guy? LOL. What is Subway Jared gonna to if McDavid or Drai play run-and-gun hockey? Nothing.

Amazing that some of you were here thru twu Cup wins and still don't understand the difference between regular season and playoff hockey.

McDavid possesses none of the traits of a winner. He is just the most extreme example of a one-way player who doesn't do what's needed to win a series. Trying to score 5 goals a period doesn't win, it sets your team up for a nasty fall. Every time.

Sure you can, don't overpay players like Nurse, Keith, RNH, etc. The problem with the Oilers isn't McDavid at 12.5, it's:

RNH at $5.1 (for an eternity with a NMC)
Hyman at $5.5 (for an eternity with a NMC)
Nurse at $9.25 (for an eternity)
Keith at $5.5

You can't make that many mistakes with a $12.5 million dollar player on your roster

Look at their defense for next year, their top 4 paid defensemen are all overpaid. Teams don't get in trouble paying elite talent, they screw themselves overpaying middling talent

Not counting anyone out until Monday. Kings have played a couple of horrid games and have barely won a couple they did play.
Kings have two chances. We have seen plenty of teams lose them both.

But I am happy they are the team with 3 wins. Can’t get to four without getting to three.

RNH is worth it.
Hyman to me, looks like he's worth it for the next 4 years anyway. Dude has been a beast.
Nurse - overpaid.
Keith - it was a gamble - hoping that a team in desperate need of leadership could improve with IQ/experience.

Teams do get in trouble paying elite talent.

Since Toews and Kane got paid, how many playoff series has Chicago won?

Since Zetterberg's life time contract started, how many series did Chicago win?

Since Doughty and Kopitar got paid, how many series did LA win?

If the Kings win I will personally buy Axl Rhoadz a Todd Mclellan body pillow that he so desperately wants. Let’s gooo

Dude one more goal please

man what if we win lmao

Fellas I am not superstitious by any means but the kings won tonight with this jersey on me.. so I’m wearing this Thursday. Lets f***ing go. I am so pumped LETS GO. Everyone needs to wear the same outfit come Thursday.

Shoutout to my sister for getting the sweater. You know who you are 🙏🏻

Did you get the pillow ?

Actually surprised Nurse got 1 game. The way the calls have been going, granted its playoff, and the general apathy of DOPS, I'd figure the Kings would have to deal with more of the same bullshit on Thursday. Does Edmonton take this as a warning and play "cautiously" or throw caution into the wind and go super Nurse.

I don’t know why people are ragging on McDavid when he makes our best players look like beer leaguers every game.

None of our players currently could hold a candle to him. Blake would trade Kopitar,Doughty, and Byfield for Mcdavid today if he was available.

The one thing I learned watching this series is that Draisaitl should have an alter dedicated to McDavid and pray to his picture before he sleeps for McDavid making him look much better than he actually is.

Draisaitl alone is a good second line player with a very good shot, slow, and good hands with size. The amount of times mcdavid has set him up and taken the focus of kings player onto himself to feed Draisaitl a goal is insane.

the issue is Leon in Edmonton not Connor. I feel you can win with Connor at his cap hit. He is so friggin good.
Top three in the league for me are McKinnon, Crosby, McDavid. I would probably take McKiinon out of those three to build a team around just because I feel he is a better two way guy than McDavid, and Crosby is too old to start building the team around.

Also, considering how dominant McDavid is, I don’t think we’d be up on the Oilers if they had good defense and good goalie. If the Kings were to face Vegas MAF I don’t see the kings winning this series. Kings have been good but Mike smith has looked not only shaky but very beatable..

McDavid is the only reason this series is as close as it is.

Draisaitl unimpressive and has the luxury of having McDavid taking all the defensive attention
Smith bad
Nurse sucks

McDavid is keeping them in it. They’re legitimately a one man. This isn’t a McDavid issue. I’d give up an unholy package for McDavid

Did you get the pillow ?
Yes I even had them photoshop Todd super buff for his liking
