Then what is Iafallo doing out there? And Brown for almost half a season?
Check the stats, Iafallo is our 6th highest scorer:

And with Brown, he was 3rd highest scorer last year.

And with Brown, he was 3rd highest scorer last year.
Iafallo had 3 goals in his last 35 games, and one was an empty netter.
Brown, it was obvious to everyone except the coaches that he had lost a big step this year.
There was a quote maybe around February(?) by a coach (probably TMac) about Brown having a bad stretch talking as if he's going to go back to scoring 20ish goals. (I might have some of the names mixed up)
By that same rationale, Moore is having a good stretch and he's going to go back to being a bottom 6 winger.

It's really the stubbornness of the coaches to make changes, or even tinkering a little bit.
Maybe they've learned a little because they've been making some changes in this series. Finally putting Kaliev on PP1 for example, although I'm not sure why he's never been tried on his off-side for one-timers.

Theres 5 guys on a powerplay so 6th best isnt helping your argument. Plus you need at least 1 dman out there so there are two better options than him off your list alone.
Again, I’m no math genius, but don’t teams usually have two power play units which consists of 5 players a piece?

Two more 20 win seasons is iffy. He only has 1 more year on his deal. Not a lock he sticks around past it.

If he gets 20+ wins next season and can maintain the level of play he’s at now, he’s probably coming back for one more year. He’s not that old, he still plays great, and when he’s got something to play for he can steal games.

We’ve got Petersen for three more seasons and no one really ready to challenge him, so why not?

Next year is next year boys. Right now it’s one game at a time. Both teams have made some adjustments it’s gonna be huge tomorrow which team makes the better adjustments. Grumstrum has finally earned his time TMac can’t f*** him anymore after last night. What a f***ing goal!

I was so f***ed up by the time the game was over last night I had to watch the replay today at work(I work in a bar) to remember what happened.

All you gotta do is watch the replay of Grundstrom's first goal. Sums up the entire game for Edmonton.

I claim to be no type of math wizard, but are you comparing a 12-year average to a 4-year average? Doesn't seem fair...
It’s still statistically significant although it doesn’t prove causation.

Can you just help me understand why in the world you're going to bat so hard for one of the literally quantify-ably absolutely horrid parts of the team? Like, there are some fights you pick going to bat for this team that make sense, but this one clearly doesn't.

The power play was bottom tier all season and on into the playoffs and has been consistently poor under Sturm despite being a past staple of Todd McLellan teams. Whether the team was good or bad, 99 points or lottery, it's been awful.

What are you trying to show us that we don't know?

Dude, even Nick f***ing Nickson says it the personnel and not the coaching. I’ll take Nick’s opinion over the over-qualified geniuses on this board all day long.

It's almost a question of what came first, chicken vs egg, personnel vs system(coaches)

Everyone is clamoring for Kaliyev to take Kempe's spot......we get to do that from the cheap seats....

IMO, they have Kempe way to low, bottom of the circle, he needs to be dot, or slightly higher, doesn't matter if you have Kaliyev there or Kempe, I think they are trying to possibly use Kopitar/Kaliyev as a draw to open up that lane, if you have Kaliyev there (where Kopitar spent last night, on the left side) players have to respect his shot, opens up the lane for the one timer, could be Kaliyev sees the ice better than Kempe, but they have to have the ability to change the angle of attack, if it's not working up high, gotta go down low, and that's where it fails, we don't have the personnel to change that attacking point....

At this point, it should be just be guns blazing, crash the net.

Oilers' gdt is a shitshow. They are talking about running Quick. Well, I wish someone would board McDavid already since that is his favorite past time or Draisaitl since he's a punk bitch.
Ehhh, we had suggestions to run McDavid earlier in the series. A lot of really ridiculous things are said during the heat of the moment in GDT’s. I love reading the GDT comments summary, it’s truly amazing to follow one GDT closely and then see another one and realize that these two groups fans are watching the same thing.

During the playoffs fans think 90% of the penalties against their team are not penalties.

That's not sped up at all? Like not even a tiny bit?

While I do this stuff for a living I did not shoot that clip, it certainly looks real time to me. Meaning, not sped up or slowed down.

It's a whole different game from ice level, let me tell you.

Don’t worry about it, Kings are in their heads already. They thought we were gonna roll over and die.

Kings got to play the same way tomorrow night, create traffic in front of Trevor Phillips (GTA V reference). They get ahead in game 5, you’ll really see panic set in Edmonton.

I think the last two years would be more relevant.

Dude, even Nick f***ing Nickson says it the personnel and not the coaching. I’ll take Nick’s opinion over the over-qualified geniuses on this board all day long.
It’s both. The players execute (or not) and the coaches choose where they play in the lineup. So using Iafallo as the example he’s responsible for his own PP execution but continually rolling him out there on the top unit is on the coaches. Overplaying the top unit on the pp is also on the coaches. Kopitar being gassed for the second half of the 2 minutes helps nobody.

I‘m not some thats constantly has a go at the coaching, 5 on 5 they are great. However, to act like there are no issues is not objective and blinkered. There will be things even the likes of Colorado and Toronto can do better so to discuss the issues in our setup is perfectly reasonable.

I agree with you...I just feel it's ignorant to imply that it's all on the coaching. These coaches have had 82+ games to probably try everything imaginable...and that's without Doughty for 50% of it. If we have the same exact players next year, but with a different PP coach, it's going to be the same thing unless individual players are improving overall.

I think this is the part where people disagree.
They've been rolling out just about the same 5 guys on PP1 for 82 games with similar results.
Moving Kopi from the half wall to the left point for a few games isn't trying everything imaginable.
And others have mentioned it, but it's pointless to trot out the 1st unit every time for almost the whole 2 minutes when they're not significantly better than the 2nd unit.
There were times in the latter part of the season where even Jim Fox was urging them to start the 2nd unit during the broadcast.

The only part of the power play that's improved is the entry.
It's still not all that good but at least improved from beginning of the season when they spent more time retrieving the puck in their zone than in the offensive zone.

The entry has always been good since they transitioned to the drop-pass to Kempe thing...and that feels like it's been done all season long.

People here only understand what is happening in the game.

We see 82 games and make assumptions based on that, however the coaches see those games plus 275 practices where this is drilled and drilled and drilled.

As much as its infuriating the execution we see, you do have to lay a lot of the blame on the players for not executing regardless of the system.

I gotta think if there was a better way with this personnel it would have been found by now.
