I agree but the goal counted so I would make that deal any day of the week

Do you not think it is fair to question the PP and PK given lack of success for such a long period. WE are not talking about a one or two week stretch
I agree but they could've given the Kings a 4 minute power play including the goal. Makes no sense to me that he can something so blatant like that and not get penalized at all. There's your 2 + 10 minute penalty right there.

How did Edmonton not end up with 3 penalties on the Kings 3rd goal? The initial penalty. Then Nurse tripping Moore after the goal. And then the failed challenge. Why can Nurse trip a guy so blatantly after the play is over and not get a penalty for that? I thought the NHL referees were being taught to penalize the instigator only?

Goal nullified the initial penalty, ignored the Nurse penalty, and they got the delay of game penalty

It was Quicks 10th career playoff shutout. I believe they also said this one now makes him the leader in such from US born goaltenders.

Yep! All time playoff shutout leader among US-born goalies. 11th all time among all nationalities, tied with Lundqvist and Dryden now.

At this point, I'm fairly convinced the lack of success on the PP is not due to coaching...it's due to execution.

I saw Kaliyev with plenty of opportunities last night, only to miss the net. Explain to me how the PP savior is going to fix the 'problem' when he's not even hitting the net?

Do you think JQ a lock for the HOF? I believe he should be.. but of course im biased.

A Conn Smythe, two cups, and by the time it’s over, possibly the greatest US goaltender of all time? I think he should. He only needs 41 wins to reach 400 in his career, which would all but be a lock. Two more 20-win seasons is achievable. Being in the top 20 all time at your position should get you into the hall in my opinion.

I think Durzi's been neutered on the PP by Kopitar. He just plays catch with Kopi on the outside and doesn't do anything creative anymore.
Late in the season he made some mistakes on the PP that led to SH scoring chances for the opposition. He's been much more risk adverse since then. Not sure if it was by choice, or coaching.

If i were to guess, its the Kopitar effect. Almost every revolving door in the few years on the powerplay with Kopitar has played the same. Slow, predictable, and telegraphed. The Half-Wall joke has its origin story for a reason. While Kopitar is a good player, he is very inefficient on the powerplay. He slows the game down too much. The point of the powerplay is to be quick and decisive in order to expose the lack of coverage the opposing team has down a man. Being slow and indecisive never opens lanes or exploits the man advantage you have.

Worst part of it all, Kopitar is never guarded heavily on the powerplay because he differs to passing way too much over shooting so the opposition rightfully blocks the passing lanes rather than encroach onto him.

Hot damn. Still thinking about Durzi saying that Brown tapped him on the leg and said you're gonna do good kid a few games ago.

Two more 20 win seasons is iffy. He only has 1 more year on his deal. Not a lock he sticks around past it.

when you do the same thing over and over with no result is that not the system?

Oh wait, are you now questioning Kaliyev on the PP? You do know the coaching staff put him there right? Are you saying you know more than NHL coaches? I hope to see you apply to be the next coach of the Kings with such audacity

When a player shoots wide, is that part of the 'system'?

I'm not questioning it, but I also don't believe that if he had more PP time that it would fix the issues.

Good summary.. He rarely puts him self in a position to shoot - which helps the defender to decide whether to cover him closely.. he has almost zero deception to his style on the PP.. yet in 5x5 he is really good at avoiding poke checks entering the zone and does lots of smart quick-thinking deceptive things in the defensive zone to get out of trouble. He is in a gigantic rut on the PP that developed over the years. Its so palpable to be an emperor has no clothes even to the most casual observer.

There were times throughout the season when guys were moving or at least tried to move the puck quicker but it would stop on Kopitar's stick. Receive, stick handle a few times and then pass back to the point.
I love when he makes one touch passes but he just doesn't do it nearly enough.

So what are the issues then?
Read above, I already answered that...it's execution which equates to the skillset of the personnel. Did you notice during the regular season that the Kings weren't a very good GF team overall? Did you notice that we aren't necessarily made up of elite goal scorers...or even ONE for that matter? Did you notice our highest scoring player only had 67 points?

Maybe, just maybe you can see the correlation there.

Both Kopitar and Doughty are slow and indecisive on the PP and have been their entire careers. It’s no wonder the Kings have struggled to score in that situation, no matter the coaches, most of their careers.

If you have a PP that hasn't executed for the entire season, and you have coaches putting out those same guys every game, is that not a coaching problem?

The PP usually consists of your highest scoring forwards and D-men...I would bet that lines up with your 'same guys' you are referring to. Prove me wrong.

From 06-07 to 17-18, the Kings Power Play averaged being in the top half of the league (13th), and overall was only 3.2% away from matching best in the league.

Since Sturm got her in 18/19, the Kings PP has fallen off a cliff, and has averaged 26th best in the league.
