I think that whole Benning core (minus Hughes) is done here, personally. They've had their shots to win and came up short far too often, and now they're making too much money.
Exactly. Boeser is at 6.5 mil and like all players, will want more on next contract. Canucks are paying debrusk 5.5 and garland 5 mil for same production. Fat chance if you think Rutherford is giving boeser 7 mil plus. Better to trade him, half retained and get whatever picks and use for future trades.

Boeser is on borrowed time, he's a UFA this offseason and we should get whatever we can for him.
He can get his 8 million a year elsewhere, not here.
8mil wont look too bad for Boeser with the cap going up. He's one of the only pure scorers we have. Needs a centre he has chemistry with. Miller leaving hurts him.

Petey is the one that needs to be moved for a haul.

Shouldn't get too down on this one. All the advance stats favour the Canucks by a lot. High danger chances were scored 14-2 in favour of Vancouver.

Not sure if D Petey has moved up the depth chart, but he played 16 minutes vs Juulson 11 minutes.

He actually played 18 shifts compared to Juulsen's 20. He's just staying out there longer. Not sure the coach is going to love him averaging nearly a minute a shift.

Annoying loss after a mostly good performance. Generally controlled the game and badly outshot/outchanced Detroit despite no Hughes. Reffing was horrible - sometimes there is legitimately a game where a team controls possession and doesn't take a penalty but that was not Detroit tonight. We could have had 4 PPs and it wouldn't have been controversial.

- Chytil had happy feet in the last 40 minutes and looked like the Chytil from the first half of the 22-23 season. Nice start for him, loved how excited he was after his goal. The caveat here is that he's always been able to do this for games and stretches but never able to sustain it.

- Marcus Pettersson had a terrific debut. Nothing flashy but played 26 minutes and barely put a foot wrong. Get his name on a contract ASAP.

- O'Connor was the player I've seen in the past watching Pittsburgh. He's big, he's fast, he competes and wins a lot of puck battles. Was very effective tonight.

- despite good debuts from all 3 new guys, best thing about this game was D Elias Pettersson. Looked like a 10 year vet. Skated well, moved the puck well, made all the right plays. If he can sustain what he did tonight, he's an NHL player who should stay here permanently.

- 1st line was a little better in the 3rd but good god was the first 40 minutes ugly. Pettersson has basically been handed the keys to the kingdom and openly challenged by the coach and GM to step up, and these first two games have been awful. Looks like a guy who just doesn't want the puck, doesn't want to be a difference maker. Perimeter player. In fairness, not helped by the fact that Debrusk was a ghost and Boeser totally ineffective.

- Garland had maybe his worst game of the season. Just lots of erratic play tonight, bad decisions with the puck, not effective.

- I love Joshua but he needs to be on the 4th line until he plays himself off of it. Not skating well, does not look sharp.

Chytil is much faster than I thought, great at carrying the puck up ice and on the rush. I like the offensive confidence he has, hope Toc doesn't coach it out of him.

M. Petey looks solid.

Actually all Petey's played well I thought. Forward Petey made some nifty passes (the one he lopped to Hoglander who than made a nice pass to Boeser, that shows creativity). Forward Petey look much faster now, hope his knee is 100% now that JT is gone.

Detroit got away with so many infractions today it was kind of ridiculous, but NHL refs, what can you do?
