GDT: 2021-22 season WESTERN CONFERENCE QUARTER FINALS Game 3 LA Kings vs Edmonton Oilers @7:00pm Series Tied 1-1

Our hopes (not for this week - there is no hope for that) largely rest on 3, 19 year olds, that were all born the 3rd week in August, 2022.
Quinton Byfield, Martin Chromiak and Brock Faber....except 1 may not even want to play for the Kings....
So he can be closer to his sister, I bet Faber wants to be traded to Minnesota.

As an outsider looking in, pretty disappointed I don’t get to see a series between these two with a healthy Doughty.

Look at what Karlsson did for the Senator during their run, and think about what Doughty could do with the King’s supporting cast.

I’ve said this the other game but I haven’t seen an organization rebuild their entire blue line quite the way the Kings have in such a short period of time, and this is without Clarke dressing.

I kinda feel robbed, but Kings did their job and split the away series from the Oilers. Just keep splitting and take game seven. Series is far from over, and despite what we’ve seen I’m much more confident in Cal/Quick than Smith/Koskinen.

Still goes the distance imo

At this point I just want to see something different. Mix up some lines and put the younger guys into roles you want them in, ideally. Sit AA because he doesn’t help us when we are getting dominated and he’s not likely here anyway. Brown? Harsh, but sit him also.

Play Byfield, Vilardi and Kupari (+ Grundrstrom if fit) and put them in meaningful roles and give even ice time to those top 3 lines. Let them sink or swim because either way they will be better for it. If it’s a one goal game in the last 10 minutes DON’T shorten the bench because thats those really key minutes where they will learn so much.

For the top 3 ‘scoring’ lines I‘d do some thing like… (Assuming Arvidsson is fit )

Kupari - Kopitar - Kempe
Moore - Danault - Vilardi
Iafallo - Byfield - Arvidsson

Then give them 15 mins each and roll them throughout including pp time. Because if they just try the same stuff again I’ll be off the TMac train completely. He‘s done some good things and I like him but he’s got to show he can be creative in what he’s trying to do. If he try’s something different and we lose heavily again I’d be absolutely fine but if we do the same and lose by a couple of goals then I’m really not going to be impressed. Even a win doing the same old thing won’t excite me all that much at this point.

Haven’t we said from the get go that TMac was always a Crawford hire?

If this team was in any other division we wouldn’t even be watching them get shellacked in the first round.

Can't win games when you give up 5+ goals per game. I'm really fighting myself thinking we're running out a really young and experience defense its expected and yet at the same time being f***ing furious and angry that it just looks so easy for the Oilers

Teams that can score will exploit young defenses every time. That what's been happening, when the Oilers have their chances they're putting them in. That was the story of the 2nd period. We on the other hand, shoot it into the glove on our chances.

This is how you expose a young defense. Spence before the pass, has the lane covered.

Spense chases the guy in the slot, leaving his position and the lane wide open for the last goal. Rookie mistake, but one an experience dman doesn't make. We're learning the hard way right now.

That only works if you have pride and self respect.
This team showed its pride and self respect plenty during the year and this is where the argument that you “ negative” types get to whine and how dare we question your remarks goes south , we are all crushed at the last two games but damn how about the coaching staff and GM takes some of the blame for this , 1) a PP that hasn’t produce all year and more like a couple of years and they did nothing to help, 2) a rash of injuries that rivals the Andy Murray days and they made no trades or signings to help all year, 3) a PK that struggles all year and they did nothing to help and then when the team was fighting for 2nd and a playoff spot they decided to sit on their asses and do nothing , nothing to help , getting a goal scorer or another vet may not have even have helped but it would have shown the team that they believed in them and their chances but they did nothing ……the team has 11 first time playoffs guys and are going up against the best player in the world, 5 top ten picks on their power play alone WTF did you think was going to happen, the team is fine needs more experience and better talent on almost every line but heart and soul they got

Brutal special teams all season. Horrible from game #2 thru playoff game #3. What’s upsetting is that nothing different was tried on purpose (injuries forced personnel changes) at all. Zero changes. It’s not working and they keep doing the same exact thing over and over again.
I really hope some changes are made before next season. I like Yawney and what he’s done with the 20 defensemen he’s had to deploy this season. The other 2 guys can get on the 5 north and never come back.

Kings play man on man. I have seen Doughty follow his man all the way to the blue line. Spence picked up his man. Iafallo lost his man.
People keep saying the Kings young defense got beat. But on the ice I think for the flurry of goals that sunk the Kings to begin with were Edler, Roy, Kopitar, Iafallo, AA, Kempe.

What's pretty disheartening is the fact that last night had nothing to do with special teams.

YEah the young d-men didn't start getting beat until the game was well out of hand and even then that Spence sequence was on the PK no?

What's pretty disheartening is the fact that last night had nothing to do with special teams.

Sure it did, first goal was 4v4. That's 'even strength' but it's still a situation in which you're not exacty playing 5v5 hockey. Then Edler's dumb ass who has no business pinching offensively in that situation crashed the net and fell giving McDrai a 2-on-1, just a brain dead play.

The second goal was PP.

Everything after that is almost irrelevant, even though they hung in until goal #4. Special teams set the tone.

If the goal is to get through the game without taking a single penalty then okay I get it. But you and I disagree with what's relevant because instead of clawing back into the game they went on to give up 6 more goals at even strength. 1-3 vs 1-4 pp
