Kopitar is just as much a part of the problem. He is too old to play a #1 center role and likely to see a sharper decline next year. Point total will most likely drop to the 50s and will have less of an impact in all areas. Nothing at all to be ashamed of, he is doing what he can with what's left.
Instead of putting emphasis on growing and progress they are trying to win with players who cannot win anymore. This is the last hurrah for the Cup Core, they gave them what they wanted instead of TURNING THE CORNER into a new, organically grown identity that develops around younger players who are allowed to pursue their own destiny instead of being developed to fulfill minor roles in the story of the last generations dying breaths.
Like this feeling folks? Getting man-handled by an average team so the old folks can get yet another last chance? Sentimentality plays far too large a role in this entire organization, nothing will change until they let the past go and embrace a future that is already rearing to go.
