GDT: 2021-22 season game 8 LA Kings vs Montreal Canadiens @1:00pm 10/30/21

Reminds me of those late Sutter years, they were top of the league in all of the shot based metrics, but scoring was nowhere to be found.

And it's not like they're not getting quality chances:

As much as it feels like there's something missing with this team, things will somewhat regress positively to the mean, right...?

i actually kinda noticed that, i remember a season or two ago someone corrected me on how many goals the kings were scoring off the rush and since then i feel like i've been more aware of it

i was only half watching the game today so i can't say why, whether it was forwards working harder or better d breakouts or what but those goals were all pretty clean. matchups make the difference i guess

Well I think the goals will eventually come. It's fixing the worst penalty kill on a planet that is going to have the most impact on the standings.

We would hope but we are lower on shooting talent than many teams so that's why we often end up on that end of the PDO pole.

That's why it's always fun to mess with lineups from a 'stats' point of view too, like even during the sutter years, Gaborik--can we trade some of these CF% for some higher quality shots? Like, we have possession, so let's trade some of that possession for a higher skill shooter. Kind of what I was saying with taking possession monsters like Iafallo/Danault and giving them a high talent shooter.

Obviously at that point you have to consider role, intangibles, chemistry, etc...but just from a raw standpoint

Fool's gold win over an even worse team but it's nice to stop the bleeding every once in a while.

Succeeded despite TM's best efforts, good thing Andersson came back in time to banish Vilardi and send Tkachev to Ontario...Kupari and Kaliyev STILL with nearly the least minutes despite their presence, and Maatta still somehow playing...fortunately most everyone picked it up but it didn't make me feel any more confident than the other night.

Even in victory I'm down on this team right now because of who is behind it. Because we know the moment TM has even a blink of a kid playing anything less than perfect, it'll be 5 more minutes for Kopitar or Kempe or someone else sent down so Lizotte can stay. Trying to enjoy it while it lasts but it's really, really difficult knowing that what comes next will be a step backward.

Exactly my thoughts. Wouldn't be surprised same s**t tomorrow.

Bjornfot - Anderson were great together. Clague plays well every time he gets a chance in the NHL. Maatta is not good still.
Montreal is a horrible team. Softer than the Kings even.

Speaking of shots. 16 year old Connor Bedard has a harder backhand then Blake Lizotte's everything shot.

The Bedard vs. Michkov battle next year will be fun.

Both players will be very good. Bedard haven't had a scorching start as he did last year, many of the good teams are playing him real close but him and Michkov in the same freakin draft. It's going to be very interesting indeed.

Losing the 2 of your top pk'r hasn't helped. They'd only given up 2 before the Nashville game, then the meltdown in Dallas after Doughty got hurt, then the St.Louis game giving 4 more. Giving up 7 in 3 games will wreck any teams pk pct. What hasn't helped is players taking really bad penalties. Kempe took 2 offensive zone penalties against he jets and another today that killed our 2nd pp and all the momentum leading up to it.

Carey price is out, they lost a couple guys to FA. What’s really surprising is Caulfield has only 1 point this season. What a tire fire over there in Montreal.

Always good to beat the crap out of Montreal, I don’t care who our HC, GM is, that was a good win.

What do you expect, Caufield very undersized without exceptional speed.
The league changed to have talented 6-3" guys with exceptional speed.
Gudreau figured that part out and Kaprizoff got a rude awakening this season as well
