GDT: 2021-22 season game 8 LA Kings vs Montreal Canadiens @1:00pm 10/30/21

Hard to play the top six offensive role when you get the highest dzone start % on the team on the 4th line next to plugs.

TM: WhY CaNt ThIS gUy bE MoRe of a ConSiSteNt DifFerEnce MakEr?

And for Tkachev, it's silly that the PP has been awful for years, but you find a guy who gives the PP a different element and...simply don't.

I'm sorry, i'm just completely over the treatment of these guys right now. I was under the impression that the end of training camp would mean the trimming of dead weight but instead it was the trimming of talent. I sure can't wait to waste money on Andreas Athanasiou's return to watch Kaliyev get sent down!

I agree with you 100%. I was ready to fire McClellan after the first period today. No I lied. I was ready to have that happen a couple of games ago. Gabe was treated like garbage most of last season too by TMc. If you give him crap you linemates he's going to suck because he cannot carry a line. And that's okay for a freaking rookie. And it's obvious that Lias was a valuable component to that line's success. Like he and Tkachev were the reasons for losing 6 games in a row. Thank god that Kupari and Arty are getting run and are playing well.

I want to see

Ardvisson-Kopitar-Vilardi
Iafallo-Danault-Kempe
Andersson-Kupari-Kaliyev
Lemieux-Lizotte/Moore/Brown for the last 2 forwards.

Kopitar’s puck control can help Vilardi gain the zone and with Vilardi on wing it’ll cover up some of his defensive deficiencies.

Nice to see Kupari and Kaliyev are being productive without handpicking or whining about their crappy linemates. You guys want Vilardi handed plum ice time and linemates without earning it. Not gonna happen.

You are by far the biggest strawman manufacturer on this board.

But hey, good point! Kupari and Kaliyev played great today! Guess what their reward was? ....the least icetime amongst forwards. You don't have a slight problem with that?

Dude, you have no idea what a strawman argument is...and nope, its not just about points. They have to learn to play the whole ice, a concept that seems to be lost on here.

Definitely not lost. You think I don't understand the whole ice? I've been fighting for guys like Danault my entire time on these boards  I just want the whole roster held accountable in the same way at the VERY least. I know it's me asking a little much of TM to give a little bit of deference to youngster development, but if you're going to punish one guy, you've gotta apply it evenly.

Instead of burying vilardi and f***ing straight sending down tkachev when lias is out...why not "hmm this isn't working why don't I move Vilardi/Tkachev next to monster play drivers in Iafallo/Danault and Kempe down to help skate and forecheck?"

Instead--Kempe takes all sorts of lazy selfish ozone penalties? more icetime.
Kopitar loses his checks all night and lazily lets a guy skate by him for the game winner? Add playing time.
Vilardi starts a higher percentage of his 4th line shifts in the dzone than any other forward and fights to a 0-0 stalemate? Benched.
Maatta quite literally ushers PLD to the doorstep for the GWG? Bench Strand.

It's f***ing crazy town. I understand giving a guy some time off to watch, learn--but when they're never put in positions to succeed and summarily executed in favor of the Lizottes and Maattas of the roster, it's trash.

Again at the time I pointed out it's not a cataclysmic move but the loss of Wolanin in favor of Maatta was a bad omen and the kind of move that would piss me off but Tm is doubling down on that sort of thing night after night and I'm over it.

Who gets sent down when AA is back? I doubt it's Lizotte, and I bet it's a kid.

Blake thinks we are cup contenders now. We just pounded a team that went to the cup finals last year..... God help us!
Carey price is out, they lost a couple guys to FA. What’s really surprising is Caulfield has only 1 point this season. What a tire fire over there in Montreal.

Always good to beat the crap out of Montreal, I don’t care who our HC, GM is, that was a good win.

It's true, should at least relish that part of the victory after how many of them have been motherf***ing Danault all summer at the very least haha.

Vets always get the benefit of the doubt. Maybe you've forgotten how Sutter would sit a rookie for the rest of the game after just one bad pass or missed assignment. I suspect there's a lot more going on with Vilardi that we don't know about.

You put players in a position to succeed. The Ducks are not playing Zegras on the 4th line getting the vast majority of his time on defensive zone face-offs playing on a line with plugs. Why? Because that's a waste of what he can do for your team. Not every player needs to be a 200 foot player, and expecting that from youngster is ridiculous. This is not a competitive roster, so play the kids where they have a better chance to succeed and let them develop there

So is Kempe ever gonna see the bench? He constantly takes horrible unnecessary penalties, doesn't score that much and doesn't really drive play. Yet he keeps getting 2nd line minutes and PP time.

Vilardi has himself a pretty good game and then gets benched. And of all the games to bench him, Tmac benches him when Andersson returns.

As for the game, Kupari, AI again looked like the best forwards. Kaliyev looked pretty good too.

And I think AI has been the most consistent player this year. Good to see him get rewarded with 3 points.

I think every one of us knew Jordan Weal was traded the moment he turned the puck over at the blueline. I definitely get it and I know some guys are going to get more rope. And it's a good point that maybe there's more behind the scenes. Fair. But from the outside looking in, this roster is a mess of no vision/philosophy, disparate expectations, and uneven accountability.

1000x this. I was under the impression we had Kopitar Danault et. al. to insulate the youth so they could develop as such, not to just play OVER them and get kids benched while vets make mistakes.

The big difference is the Ducks don’t have Kopitar or Danault to fight a spot for. They have Getzlaf who hasn’t been good for a few seasons, Terry whose finally coming along. So 1c or 2c was wide open for Zegras.

Should’ve also said I agree with you the kids should be put in a better position to succeed.

Brown looks like he simply can't hang in the NHL anymore, and Kempe continues to take boneheaded penalties when we have any semblance of sustained pressure/momentum.

I will throw things, if Brown gets another 1 year deal. I am counting down the games and will be so good, to replace him. Get Turcotte in here to take his place...or Fagemo.
Brown is done and TM will not acknowledge it.

Need room for Byfield when he returns and Rasmus and Arty should NEVER go down again. I would look to deal Kempe now, for a defenseman. Package a #2 pick or
A- B+ prospect. There are many. Where is AA supposed to play? Good grief. Move some of these players already. Start with Lizotte.

I'm just really happy the rookie of the year for '22 didn't score on us today. Keep him at 1 point.

Anyways, I'm not really a person of getting rid of the coach after only a few seasons but man I think I'm gonna have to jump on the bandwagon for getting rid of Todd. This team has holes everywhere but man just something about Todd that's not clicking with this team. A few of you have made some great points maybe it's time to move on from this guy.

Totally forgot he was the coach. LOL.

On the TSN broadcast they said the Kings are leading the league in shots on goal per game.

I couldn't believe it. But it's true:

Out of the top 13 teams in SOG per game, only 2 have a losing record. LA and Toronto.

A wins a win, so stopping the bleeding is the big statement, regardless of quality of competition. Winning tomorrow changes the narrative. But we’ve seen this team win 6 games in a row followed by never winning two straight again. If the pace is 2-3 wins a month, things stay ugly.

Reminds me of those late Sutter years, they were top of the league in all of the shot based metrics, but scoring was nowhere to be found.
