Gabe Vilardi is one of those players that it's really easy to evaluate him, especially now that he is a winger, it's like with a guy like Cole Caufield, it is 100% about offensive production and nothing else. Vilardi has had a couple of chances tonight where he really should have scored on atleast one of them. Gabe is one of those guys on the fringes once everyone comes back, and he's going to have to bury more of his chances if hes going to stay in the lineup.

Kopitar, Brown, and Quick have done so much for this team and their numbers will be in the rafters one day but their game play is not as what it used to be and that's not surprising since father time comes for everyone. They have a lot of wear and tear.

I think the Kings would win this series if Doughty is able to come back, if not it will be really tough.
With Doughty, Lizotte and Lemiuex back the Kings absolutely have the pieces to win a series against Edmonton but we don’t have the coach. DD should be shutdown on McDrai, Spence and/or Durzi on the pp, Kopitar with 15-18 minutes of ice, Kaliyev on pp1. So many obvious things but we’ll never see it.

Not arguing there.

But hush. We're not supposed to call out the shortcomings of rookies.
Hey, I have been saying since his first game that Durzi is the single worst defenseman I have ever seen. That hasn't changed one bit, the kid is a defensive disaster, but he is one hell of a hockey player. He just goes for it and it has worked a little bit more than it has cost. The last couple of games, not so much.

Kopitar though, dude has become a liability over the past few weeks. He is routinely getting beat on plays he used to be able to make in his sleep. Too many minutes, too many miles.

I would speculate that management thought that if they leaned on the kids too early that they would be too far behind to get them into meaningful games late in the year. So, if that really was the plan, this is what would have been expected (minus the defensive injuries) from the team and likely explains the hesitancy to spend big to add to this teams chances.

This post doesn’t give enough credit to Nathan Dempsey’s level of awfulness.

In an ideal situation Durzi is on the 3rd pair and powerplay specialist. Then you hope he grows as time moves on. If not, he’s replaced by Spence or whoever else is next. No problem with any of that.

As for Kopitar, well…

Kaliyev and Arvidsson immediately come out and generate a better chance than the #1 unit has had all night.
Todd’s inability to make changes as the game develops is only going to become more glaring if this team somehow stumbles into a playoff series.

The Kings have been figured out it seems. The book is out. Just do wrap arounds since there’s no muscle to stop them.
