Honestly at this point I'd probably rip Kopitar off the PP altogether. If for no other reason than this team needs to remove a safety blanket of predictability but will also lower his/even out the others minutes. Change something, anything. Funny how much better it looked at times tonight when they had to play honest by cheating to Frk; they know otherwise they can just sit on guys elsewhere.

Yeah, I mean how many times has that pass from the half wall into the slot ever connected in Kopi's career, maybe 5 times? He tries it every game and it's always blocked and cleared. Happened twice tonight, when there were other options. He wasn't good at all tonight, not just on the pp.

Even in a game like last night when they play well, the lack of scoring, the lack of production from the back end, and the absolutely horrendous special teams is simply going to be too much to overcome. The problem is even if they go out and continue to play well like they did last night, does anyone see any of those massive negatives improving? I sure don't. At this point why not try wholesale changes on special teams, it seriously cannot hurt.

Kopitar did provide an excellent screen for Frk's goal. Maybe that's his new role.

This is why I said a few weeks ago to play Kaliyev the full two minutes on PP. When you are hurting for goals and have a world-class shot on your team, you milk that on PP all day long.
I don't give a shit if he is 20 y/o or a rookie, you let him sit there and fire all day as the other guys try to feed him. He will score, produce rebounds and build his confidence while opening up lanes for the other guys.
Jeez, for the copycat league of all leagues this is not rocket science.

Even Ovie doesn't get the full two minutes on the PP and he's the closest one to that arguably the best PP player ever. Draisiatl and McDavid get about 80% of the PP time. I like Kaliyev a lot but he's not even in the same stratosphere as those guys.

Gotta love Anze giving up the GWG because he was too tired and lazy to get the puck deep then too non-motivated to backcheck and cover Matt f***ing Luff. That's a nice way to blow a game, captain.

Good thing he got another 20+ minutes while being the 4th worst possession forward on the team--only worse line was Kupari-Brown-Andersson as expected but they still finished +1.

I just happened to really be really watching this shift and this was on TMc as well. He sent out Kopi to take a defensive zone draw for a different line I believe. By the time they got the puck out of the zone, there was a line change and Kempe and Frk hit the ice. It ended up being a really long shift for Kopi. Instead of leaving the ice when he was gassed he stayed out there and just let Matt Luff beat him. Bad decisions all around.

Now on the PP, they need to put Kopi in a shooting position, not playmaking. The powerplay has rarely ever been good with him running it. He is a good passer, but he's not a deceptive passer and that makes all the difference on the PP.

Put in a position to succeed, and suprise surprise, he did. I'm really surprised Todd didn't yank him off the 1st line after Brown scored and kept him on PP1 through the whole game.
It was funny hearing the whole broadcast talk about his world class shot and how the Kings can really use a shot like his and it'll change the power play, etc, as if they haven't had Kaliyev on the team all year.

Agreed, Kaliyev has one of the best shots on the team for sure, and Frk got the treatment yesterday that I have been hoping Kaliyev would get for a long time (just put him on Kopitar's line and keep him there and see how things play out and if any chemistry develops there). Of course, while Kaliyev is likely the better overall player and scorer, Frk definitely has his place. It is hard to snub your nose at a guy that literally has the hardest recorded shot in hockey history lol. Both are special teams assets that need to be highlighted, leaned upon, and utilized moving forward. If we had Frk and Kaliyev both out there for a PP, I shudder to think of the possibilities....

You have to hand it to Frk, he went out there and definitely seized his opportunity. He looked slightly jittery and was definitely trying hard to fit in and was quick to pass to Kopitar or Doughty, but he looked good and like he belonged for sure. Of course, this is a common tale of a young player flying out of the gate, it is another thing to do that and be consistent over the long haul.

In the end, I am happy for Frk. He has been one of the more tragic storylines on the roster for a while now. He literally earned his roster spot and a contract extension only to be decimated by injuries and be on his last chance when everything he's done on the ice has literally proven that he belongs out there on NHL ice.

Overall, I was a little bit optimistic last night watching our powerplay. I actually liked the puck movement and just having an adaptive plan of getting that shot off. One looked abysmal, but the rest had a lot better puck movement and motivation than what I've seen so far this season. Though, we definitely need more results, and a lot more consistency on forcing offense every game.

If there's space for an inconsistent defensive liability with variable effort like AA, there's space for a specialist like Frk.

The one thing I won't really ever understand is how the org picks and chooses "hey this selfish showboat who can't play a lick of defense is ok" but "hey this PP specialist who overpasses and can't play a lick of defense IS BANISHED FOREVER"

You are obviously not well versed in the nuances of eenie meenie.

You love him when he's on your team and hate him when he's not. Love that pickup. He literally comprises 90%+ of the balls on this team.

Yup and our bone head GM would rather protect Brown and Andersson over Lemieux at the expansion draft. This organization has no clue what they have and we expect them to make prospect trades to help? Our GM's work is done, time to bring in a builder that can evaluate the current talent, make the right moves and not take 6 years to figure it out.

That trade was great, the Muzzin trade was also a home run. Blake does well in trades, negotiating and understanding value and what the franchise needs.

The issue is development, coaching, execution of any plan if there is/was one.

You had to protect a guy with a NMC/NTC unless said player agrees to waive it for the draft. Look up Milan Lucic and Carey Price who did just that. Brown didn't waive it most likely. Basically, Blake picked Andersson to protect over Lemieux which makes plenty of sense to me seven months ago.

$2.7m vs. $725k is the most likely answer. If you'd like Frk on the team though, you know, given a healthy roster, that one of the young guys won't be here. I'm surprised Frk was sent down anyway, with his 1 way deal. Same with Wagner.

I don't remember Lemieux doing much with the team last year that got anyone excited. I'm almost sure his lack of being Lemieux after coming here actually concerned some people over the giving up of an asset for him more than anything else.

Seattle could've taken Quick, our boy Clague, Moverare, Strand, Wolanin, AA, Frk, Grundstrom, Lizotte, or Lemieux, and they didn't. At least the Kings aren't the Kraken, and our former HoF player playing GM isn't quite as stupid as their former HoF player playing GM.
