Don't think these guys are still really posting or loitering around here any more but if you're still out there f***ING THANK YOU

you know what the worst part about this is? eloquently trashing people like that is completely lost on them

expect no response from any of them, right back to passively aggressively chiding their consumers from their ivory tower

I have a lot of respect for Lombardi. I know he made crazy mistakes while pushing for a 3rd cup, but I would still like to not fire him. Instead, I would have preferred if management talked to him and made it clear that the direction of the team is rebuild now so that we are better in the long term. Once expectations are aligned, Lombardi could build this team back up and wouldn't make those risky moves he made from 2015-2017.

DL was running the team into the ground. Not like he was fired in July 2014. He oversaw the disaster of 14-15. Even thought he was clever and above it all when he let Voynov practice that one day. Smartest guy in the room after all. I'll still defend his decisions in 15-16, but they did result in just 1 playoff win. And then 16-17 was just all around lackluster.

ok sure, I can agree with that. But I do wonder about April 2017, when Luc and friend were gifted control and they told the World that the Kings would immediately return to the playoffs and keep on contending. And based on that fact, how do we know that the Architect didn't propose a retool to AEG when he was shown the door? It could have also been a "if he goes, I go you can fire me too" type situation with Sutter.

Again, I don't know if any of it is true, I just like to ask it

I know everyone agrees the Kings needed to evolve and some things had to change. The question now, after 5 years were the right changes made?

I think he means well and can right the ship. It's just taking longer than expected. If these 1st rounders don't hit, then I could see him being let go.

The ship -

Look fellas, lets not be crazy.

Lombardi had definitely lost his touch, Sutter lost his touch, Blake was a bad hire. And Luc is ass. So is Todd.

All of this can be true all at once. I dont know why any of you would want DL back. He lost the team, its only logical to say that promoting Blake was idiotic.

I think the Kings have done an excellent job with drafting, but i've never been a fan of hiring from within. I think you need people outside the organization in key positions. Too much nepotism.

I think the draft team has done well aside from missing ZEGRAS AHHH! But keep the scouting department, and can Blake, Sturm, Todd, and Luc.

It’s so funny in hockey that the GMs who lead the Hawks, Pens, and Kings to all the cups all were fired during the last decade plus.

You would think that you get a min. 5 more years after winning not one, but multiple Cups in a short span. Ok how about 4 years? Am I crazy?

I think the issue is that the GMs tend to f*** up after the cups by handicapping the team.

It's not that I want DL back. At the time I thought he should be given the opportunity to shift focus from selling picks/prospects to keep going for it, to re-tolling or re-building. At the time I thought his past track record with the Kings should have allowed him that. It is interesting he has not reserviced as a GM or president of hockey ops elsewhere.
He has been gone too long and do not want him back.

One thing I think DL did a great job of was surround himself with other great executives. Losing Futa, Soloman, and Struthers from the organization is a loss IMO. Not saying their replacements will not or cannot succeed, but those guys were great from an outsider POV.

No, I thought it was crazy at the time, still do.

Yes, change was needed.... but I also thought it was weird he didn't get a chance to correct his mistakes after all he did.

Do you think Blake has a relationship with any of these guys the way Lombardi did? I could be wrong but I just don't see it. Perhaps it's better that way idk.

Kings need to clear house completely and bring in new people with no ties to the Kings. Anything short of that is a bandaid and a waste of time.
100%

luc's done a good job surrounding himself with yes men though, taking control of everything from the GM to the media to put it all in-house under his thumb

i have to think AEG have enough business acumen to see through it but i wonder how long it will take

Anyone who has season seats call your rep and ask "what game is the Dustin Brown retirement ceremony game..is it in January?" See what the response is.

Sol - we can all lament that loss, but in all honesty Turcotte had a killer season that year and that elevated his value. Zegras is definitely going to be the top dog from the 2019 draft. Sometimes we miss. But we also have to feel fortunate to see guys like Clarke, Kaliyev and Pinelli fall to us. I still think Byfield can go down as the best player in the 2020 draft - only time will tell. Raymond will be a stud as well.

Time to bump up the DL and Sutter thread?
