I like that Iafallo sounds more like a veteran and spoke about being more offensive and scoring more....and even more than that? "we gotta to step on everyone's throats" (2:20 into his interview) WOAH! Love that. I bet this is something going around in the room. I'm liking this team and will be more fun to watch as well. Danault and Arvidsson are legit top 6 forwards and in their prime, both at 27. They are both pros and seem to be pumped. Edler can help stabalize the backend and be good on the PK. (he had more blocked shots than any King last yr had)

Would love to see one or 2 of: Byfield, Turcotte, Kaliyev, Kupari, Fagemo make it, but with the AA's, Tkachev's, vying for spots, not much room. But as TM said "we don't care who the player is (whether it's a rookie, free agent, etc) on this team, it will be the best team we can ice each night"

I'm looking for these to step up to a higher level: Vilardi, Iafallo, Kempe (to a degree, Iafallo and Kempe stepped up some last yr) Lias Andersson, Trevor Moore.
Wildcard: Tkachev and I will add Lemieux even. I think Lemieux is at a point where he has to step up, if he's going to be an NHL player and this is a contract yr.
One thing to keep in mind, he's one of the few that can enforce (ask Josh Manson) and also DRAW PENALTIES. The King's PP should be somewhat better
and Lemieux has been adept at drawing penalties. Yes, he may not even make it, but just saying he could be a wildcard to actually be decent part of this team.

I want to see this Kings team step on everyone's throats.

Is Drew ever going to get those teeth fixed?
he's probably got implants in there already, doesn't really make sense to get the replacement tooth til your career's done imo, in case you eat another puck

i've got an implant in one of my fronts too cause i'm done with playing, while it was healing they just capped the abutment and made a little clip in retainer so you can look like a normal human being if you have to. it's pretty gnarly biting into hard things cause there's no ligaments there any more, it's just a threaded tap into your skull. i imagine breaking it out with another puck would probably do a ton of bone damage

ordinarily I would agree, but I recall him saying he promised his wife he'd get them fixed in time for his wedding.

Oops.

Brown and Carter are in the same boat. I know Brown had some surgery years ago so after his career is over, his teeth can go back in. I think Gretzky has implants in his front teeth too.

oddly enough when i was waiting on mine to heal, i saw some photo of carter where i saw metal sticking out of his gaps so he may even have had em done and broke em again or there's some novel way of temporarily attaching them that i don't know about

i guess it's like any other medical equipment where there's a bunch of competing brands with their own "special" features so who knows

Maybe it was just leftovers from his party island days

Will they do physicals and release info like height and weight. I am interested in seeing if some of the younger guys got taller or put on some weight?
I did a quick comparison between what’s on CapFriendly and the just released list for the forwards of note …

Big gains this summer …
Vilardi 1” 15#
Andersson same
Tkachev 1” 5#
JAD same
Kaliyev same 20#
Madden same 18#
Turcotte 1” 5#
Byfield 1” 5#
Fagemo same 10#
Kupari -1” 11#
Lizotte 1” 10#
Some of them boys swelled up nicely.

It appears that the biggest gains were for the 17/18 draft class or earlier. Kids tend to bulk up past the 21st birthday.

QB is going to be like 6'8 on skates once he's done growing

Fair, I think. But with SIXTY SIX guys...we're going to see some unusual movement imo. At least, I'll have faith, between that and the forechecking comments, they'll get a leash from me unless it proves to be a lie.
TMac knows that if he doesn't start winning soon, his career as an NHL coach is in jeopardy. So he may be telling the truth.

But is this approach even what's best for the franchise long term? Byfield/Turcotte/Kaliyev might be good enough to make the team out of camp, but that doesn't necessarily mean having them in the NHL is the best thing for their development.

Shout out to Madden! That's like a 12% body mass increase! Keep it going!

Depends on how they are used. If Turcotte and Kaliyev are stuck on the 3rd or 4th line, I completely agree it is not in their best interest. They need to be playing top minutes to develop and are wasted in the bottom 6. I think with Byfield it is okay to start him off on the 3C so that he eases in as a center and learns responsibility, with the goal to eventually move him to 2C next year. Hawks did that with Dach I believe, and it seems to be working out well.

Edit: In the above, I am assuming we use Turcotte as a winger and not a C since there is a log jam down the middle.

It's the Austin Wagner situation. He showed some flashes in the NHL, so the Kings kept him up in the big leagues.

But it made no sense for his development IMO.

People like to bag on him, but he showed some very good things. Had he been given time to work on his game in the AHL, while occasionally getting an NHL taste, he could've turned into a good player. Instead the Kings let him rot on the 4th. They didn't even try to develop him as a PKer or offensive player.

Just because a player can plan in the NHL doesn't mean they should. I felt the same way about Clifford. Could've been a better player IMO. No sense in throwing him into the NHL right away.

Exactly, which is why it makes little sense to waive the role players like Lizotte, Lemieux and Grundstrom. The kids aren't competing for those spots, it's the Brown, Athanasiou and Kempe group that needs to be upgraded by the young talent.

And since you aren't going to waive or trade those guys, and it would be stupid to play kids 7-8 minutes a night without veteran cover if you do move older role players for those spots, it says that most of what came out of their mouths yesterday is a series of platitudes designed to encourage the kids and fans.

I expect an older roster to start, and kids to be integrated in over the course of the year:

Arvidsson - Kopitar - Brown
Iafallo - Danault - Tkachev
Athanasiou - Vilardi - Moore
Grundstrom - Lizotte - Kempe
Andersson, Lemieux

Sounds like one King was left out of the first day due to being within two weeks of second covid shot (article on mayors manor). I am guessing it was AA.

Tkachev will be interesting. better to have competition for spots but seemed like an unnecessary signing at the time and still does to me.

Jeebus is Byfield going to be a beast once he learns to use his size.

You already started seeing some of it during the rookie games on zone entries. He comes in like a freight train with the puck and nobody wants a piece of that if he dumps it into the corner. I wish he'd shoot it a little more, but he's showing he's a pretty good playmaker. So many times he'll make a pass that the recipient isn't ready for or expecting. Chemistry will come in time.

Re Byfield , it's tough to be a freight train in the minors , don't want a 18 year old 6'4" 210# player hitting a 5'4" 135# 16 year old . Now is the time for him to learn to use his size ( to give and take hard hits ).
