Colin Fraser was definitely an unsung hero of the first cup. I remember the fourth line being crap before he came along, he gave it an instant identity and it went from an area of weakness to one of strength.

A quick reminder of LA's line up to start the 2011-12 season:

Simone Gagne - Anze Kopitar - Justin Williams
Brad Richardson - Mike Richards - Dustin Brown
Scott Parse - Jarret Stoll - Trent Hunter
Kyle Clifford - Trevor Lewis - Ethan Moreau

Willie Mitchell - Drew Doughty
Rob Scuderi - Jack Johnson
Alec Martinez - Matt Greene

Jonathan Quick
Jonathan Bernier

And their line up for game one of the finals:

Dustin Brown - Anze Kopitar - Justin Williams
Dustin Penner - Mike Richards - Jeff Carter
Dwight King - Jarret Stoll - Trevor Lewis
Brad Richardson - Colin Fraser - Jordan Nolan

Rob Scuderi - Drew Doughty
Willie Mitchell - Slava Voynov
Alec Martinez - Matt Greene

Jonathan Quick
Jonathan Bernier

The final lineup is insane depth.

I hope whoever made this has a serious case of the runs!

That lineup was insane! 1st and 2nd line looks like something out of a video game.

The cup is won in July of '12, NHL12 comes out in October of '12 = you did not say that before they won the cup.

The year of the cup win is in the title. So the last release was NHL21, even though it came out in Oct 2020.

The release date of NHL12 was Sept 9, 2011.

I dunno about you, but +27 goals in a season, assuming relatively strong goals against, is pretty significant.

Better overall team defense is also an expectation.

Assuming all 27 additional goals went to one-goal games they lost, that's a good bump in the standings.

If you expected a bottom-5 offense to become top-10, then the issue is with unrealistic expectations.

Martin Jones is no longer in SJ, so that's at least 3 or 4 more wins.
