Royals vs Wheeling last night was rescheduled due to a covid outbreak on the Wheeling roster.

All 4 of the previously rescheduled Royals home games have been moved to Tuesday and Wednesday nights in March. Since there are no available weekend nights left, there are going to be a lot of weekday games at the end of the year. Should make for some interesting travel schedules.

The Royals next seven games are all against Adirondack and Worcester, and both those teams already had games rescheduled due to covid (including six vs the Royals), so hopefully those three teams can get through the next two weeks.

Think you can skate a few shifts? As COVID cases rise, Railers get creative with roster

WORCESTER — Mike Myers was talking about how insane things have become in professional hockey in the last month or so, how hard it has been to rebuild the Railers roster on a daily basis with omicron overcoming the world’s best efforts.

To make a point, the team’s COO opened up his cellphone to show a stream of messages recruiting prospective Railers.

“See? Here’s one to Tyler,” he said. “Tyler who? Let me see. You know, I don’t know who this is.”

That’s what it has come to. Professional hockey teams recruiting players with robocalls. Sign with us and reduce your credit card payments. ...

In Tumultuous Year, ECHL To NHL Pipeline Strong As Ever

Over 700 ECHL alumni have made their way to the NHL, and that includes 20 debuts so far this season.

Does the ECHL review scoring plays and correct assists and goals afterwards?

Dunno, but why do you ask - did you get screwed out of a point that would've gotten you a $10 bonus check? Or is this a fantasy hockey results issue? :badidea:

The off ice officials will make adjustments during the game, either by reviewing video, or with input from players or the on ice officials. I don't think the league goes back afterward to make changes once the game sheet has been finalized.

I know the players used to have one of the equipment guys run up to where the off ice official sit during the intermission and pass along a message if they felt the scoring wasn't correct. Depending on how concerned they were about their stats. Some players care a lot more than others.

Yeah, it used to be better. I'm not sure why it is so slow this year. The off ice officials enter the information into league-stat during the game and it is supposed to update live on the ECHL site. In past years if I missed the announcement of the scoring, or a change in scoring, in the arena, I could look at my phone see it right away. Now it runs at least a half period behind. Maybe, like everyone else, they are just short handed and they don't get time to update as frequently. The Royals used to always have several spotters who were assigned to watch specific things, and then a supervisor who would compile their data, and another person to operate the in arena scoreboard and enter the data in the computer. They are all volunteers, so with Covid keeping people home and those who are working having to work extra hours, it is probably tough to get a full complement.

Ah yes, Brian McCullough, who got a piece of a league scoring title via fax machine...

If there's a change to be made following the finalizing of the game sheet, the team's PR director or radio broadcaster can fax or email a scoring change to the league's director of communications.

Hockey with some twists: Here's what to expect at Jacksonville's ECHL All-Star Classic

Clayton Freeman, Florida Times-Union
Mon, January 17, 2022, 4:01 AM

Skills competitions between periods. Players from 27 teams. Three-on-three action.

Monday's ECHL All-Star Classic is not your average hockey game.

But for Jacksonville Icemen forward Abbott Girduckis, the anticipation is higher than ever.

"I know we've had this date circled on our calendar all year," the Jacksonville Icemen forward said.

The spotlight moment arrives — complete with a few twists — Monday night, when the Jacksonville Icemen face a selection of the top players from across the ECHL in the league's All-Star Classic at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

The city's wait has stretched two years. The ECHL office announced the All-Star Classic's pending arrival in Jacksonville on Jan. 11, 2020, but because of COVID-19, it's taken more than two years to become reality. ...

I don't think so. Even before all the roster changes I don't think every team was represented. With three other games today, there are at least six teams who won't be represented.
North Florida sports writer, gotta cut him a little slack.

Goaltender of the Year Award named in honor of Nick Vitucci

17 Jan 2022

The ECHL on Monday announced that the League is renaming the Goaltender of the Year Award the “Nick Vitucci Goaltender of the Year Award.”

Vitucci, who was part of the first-ever induction class into the ECHL Hall of Fame in 2008, enjoyed a 26-year association with the League, beginning in the inaugural season of 1988-89. In that season, he backstopped the Carolina Thunderbirds to the Riley Cup title, the first of his ECHL-record five championships, and received the Playoffs Most Valuable Player Award.

A native of Welland, Ontario, Vitucci added Riley Cup titles with Greensboro in 1990, Toledo in 1994 and Charlotte in 1996, capturing his second postseason MVP honor with the Checkers. He received the Goaltender of the Year Award with Toledo in 1998, as he finished fourth in the league with 27 wins and a 2.78 goals-against average. ...

Vitucci is the ECHL all-time leader in goaltender appearances (479), wins (265) and minutes played (27,291). He is tied for the most 20-plus win seasons all-time with seven and is one of just three goaltenders to post back-to-back 30-plus win seasons. He is also just one of 13 goaltenders in league history to score a goal, doing so for Charlotte on March 6, 1996 against Louisville. ...
