As if the Ducks are in a better situation.

Well I assume Solomon is not a stupid man and I doubt he is moving for money so there is something that appeals to him in Anaheim over LA. Could be potential career advancement (GMBM will probably retire soon) or it could be that the inside politics and atmosphere in LA's front office are really bad right now. Again, happy employees don't normally leave their jobs...especially highly paid ones who put money lower on the list of reasons to leave an organization. Hard to frame this in a positive light whatever the reason.

That's precisely what I believe is the case. I also read the move to the Ducks is closer to his home. I don't think there is anything sinister going on behind the scenes. But some folks do love a good drama...

VP of Hockey Operations and Assistant GM? Yeah there was no way we were going to keep him, although I would've been fine giving him that role after all these years.

Always has to be the bad option when dealing with Blake and Robitaille.

My first thought was I'd rather deal with OC traffic v. LA traffic, if given the choice. Give me more money on top of it--and/or a clearer path to advancement within the organization--and it is a no-brainer.

This isn't Belichick resigning from the Jets after one day to go coach the rival Pats.

Tend to agree with you on that...working for Robitaille especially must be an ordeal. Would be hard to hide my lack of respect for his abilities every day!

Solomon was a huge deal in the DL days.

Makes me wonder if the role was minimized in this regime but it's CERTAINLY a better opportunity with the Ducks, so gotta go with Occam's Razor here imo.

But the nagging voice in my head is going "Nelson Emerson will be the new capologist" and I'm one bad hire away from a new keyboard

If he weren’t so snakebitten he’d be a solid top 9 guy...

Yes....but he is snakebitten! I think the Kraken will see that the dude can't do nothing but skate fast and shoot pucks right into the goaltenders chest! The I feel the Kraken are taking Clauge.

Nooooooo!

This makes me question our head office more than anything else. We don’t have an assistant GM. Solomon has fingerprints all over those two cup wins. He, like Futa, would be easily qualified for the title. Seems like the easiest promotion to make within the organization. Not happy at all with him walking, and it makes me question why it couldn’t get done, especially to let him move just down the freeway. He was the #1 reason I was okay with letting Blake and his clique have their field day in the office. This move scares me.

Blake is still the Assistant GM since he's been running an AHL-level squad for three seasons now.

You do know that there is a lot more to building a team than just collecting talented players, right?
First off, world champion Dougie Hamilton agrees with you. Winning requires a lot more than collecting talented players. That's obvious. But Roy is a steady Eddie. The Kings have lots of those. Hamilton brings everything to the table.
Nobody cares if Roy touches the puck. He doesn't open up the ice. EVERYONE fears Hamilton touching the puck. Hamilton isn't going to get you beat up on the defensive side either. Smart player with everything on his belt. There is a reason why everywhere he goes the team is good.

Official release from the Ducks.
Ducks Name Jeff Solomon VP of Hockey Operations and Assistant GM

15 years with the Kings, that's a pretty solid run. My guess is that there is a bigger opportunity for Jeff to advance into a GM spot, because Bob Murray may be running out of time as GM of the Ducks.
Goodbye J. Peterman

I always ranked Blake on par with Dave Taylor as a mediocre GM. Someone who was at best competent but never inspired. He takes his marching orders from above and tries to do what he can within the shackles placed on him. Ultimately, he strikes me as a guy who AEG doesn’t trust enough when it comes to the money to give him full autonomy to do what is necessary while it’s inconvenient.

One thing that made me believe in Blake’s basic competence was having Solomon as the capologist. Hopefully he is replaced sooner than later. I’m worried that Luc recently discovered cap friendly and thinks the team can use the website to manage salaries.

Looking at the Kings cap structure, it’s not like they need a cap wizard for any known contracts coming up soon. It also is a signal they may not expect to spend to the cap anytime soon.

If the Oilers lose tonight, one would have to think that there are going to be major changes ahead. I'm curious since LA has the room and prospects, it may be worth it to see if Draisaitl or McDavid could be had. Look we have all been longing for the type of deal that could mirror the Gretzky deal could happen in LA again.

LA definitely is one of the teams that could pull this off and still have enough around them to compete. Plus you could get either the best player in the league or another player that is definitely a top 5 player in the league.

Understand that this is a pie in the sky pipe dream, but if there was ever a time to strike while the iron is hot, it may be this summer...especially if Winnipeg sweeps them tonight.

I guess Soloman was tired of doing Blakes's job(he negocitated all contracts) and didn't get a promotion after all this time. Good for him, wish him the best.
They should get Jeff Gorton in this organization before it all falls apart. I have zero faith in BLuc, Emerson and Murray, it' a joke to be honest.

We can complain about Solomon since he got a job right away. But Futa has interviewed for I think at least 3 GM positions and hasn’t been hired yet.

Maybe these guys aren’t the be all end all that everybody makes them out to be?

Or maybe the organization is a tire fire now.
