Speculation: 2021-21 LA Kings News, Rumors, Roster discussion part V

I thought the rumour was that Bishop was brought in the replace Quick, but then he got injured and then that Off Season Dean got fired, so it never came to fruition.

There was zero chance of Quick's contract at the time going anywhere. Years and years left, aging body, injured body. Bishop was a whole year younger. Needing a new contract. Got one in a tax free state.

Of all the needs the Kings had on a declining team, a vet backup to Quick wasn't the most pressing.

Reaves did it in a random regular season game.

McNabb went out of his way behind the play to headshot Kopitar for literally nothing with no penalty and no team response

And this was after Haula buttended Kopitar in the face on the ground...also with no penalty and no response

Also after suspending DOughty etc.
I'm pretty sure that one was when RR was with the Blues.

Sens fan here inquiring about interest in Brannstrom.

First off, I will say that a) I dont think Ottawa feels any urgency to trade him and b) him not being in the lineup is not a real reflection of his ability. He is a better player than Wolanin, for example, and I am a notorious Wolanin booster. DJ has been very complimentary, but the Sens have made it clear that young players wont be on the team until they are every day players, and, 3 games in, DJ isnt ready to take MDZ or Mete completely off the table - which, imo, is the right decision and in line with their general method thus far throughout the rebuild with every single prospect - Norris, Formenton and Batherson all seem to have done just fine under that model.

I see Brannstrom's range as a 17-22min DMan, but that lower end is somewhat conservative imo. He is a better PPD than Chabot imo and the best in Ottawa since Karlsson... there is no doubt he can do that at an high-end level, and his defending is mostly ok (not great, but not awful)... just struggles with big fwds wide.

All that said, the writing has been on the wall for Brannstrom ever since we drafted Sanderson and, while I do think his value will increase from now to the end of the season, I realize that roster-building is not all about maximizing value.

So... long story short... what are your thoughts on a trade around Anderson-Dolan for Brannstrom? Ottawa would likely require a +, but I do think JAD would be the type of player we'd really like & he would slot in at C immediately due to injuries to 2 of our top 5 Cs.

If

I remember correctly Forbort had a few good scraps as a King.

Very underappreciated role player, got hurt bad a year before his contract was up, but he was more than solid prior to his injury. It was a no brainer to keep him and expose McNabb, but fate intervened.
Ooh it was a brainer all right. Role player on a team full of role players. If we had 6 Forborts and 12 Nick Shores we could have lost 60 games 1-0.

Rather talk Bernard-Docker.

Dont see that happening... I'd rather Brann if I was starting from scratch but JBD fills much more of a need for us. Only reason Brann may be on the outs is because hes a bit superfluous in the longterm. Appreciate the response though.

Depending on the +, I'd do it. I love JAD, but he's a victim of numbers at center.

It's tough because even if you really like Brannstrom, he's a little bit of a wild card like any prospect would be. I'd swing Kupari for him. I know others wouldn't. I personally prefer JAD to stay here as he's practically ideal depth whereas Kupari needs more offensive minutes imo. But in theory it's a good move because he should be what some of us think Clague should have been.

Fair. I'd deal Kupari if they added something to Brannstrom. I'm starting to feel like the ship has sailed on Brannstrom a bit here. Maybe a change of scenery does it for him but few prospects the past few years have had a clearer path to a regular roster spot than him and he's never really grasped it.

He's 5'9 and not shown near the amount of offensive ability he was touted to possess.

What is it about Brannstrom that's appealing? It's not his stats. Guy is a hobbit sized offensive defenseman who doesn't put up points. What's the appeal? Because of where he was drafted? Ehh
I wouldn't trade Anderson for him and he was a 4th round pick in the same draft. Aim higher folks, not just for the latest disgruntled kid.

The appeal is the skills. He's amazing collection of tools, just doesn't seem to have a toolbox, hence the lack of production.

So the game vs the Stars is an ESPN+ / HULU broadcast. If you don't have either, where can you watch it?
sign up for a free trial. Hulu offers a 30 day free trial. Just make sure that you cancel prior to the 30 days

that's what I am doing

The 30 day trail will cover 10/22 vs Dallas and 11/5 vs NJ

Hulu also has 'Future Man,' which (well, the first season, anyway) is hilarious.

Back on topic: until this thread, I had completely forgotten about Sean Durzi. What's his prognosis these days?
