They could have done the same with Yanni Gourde. Either guy would have returned them a boatload. They seem intent on making Gourde a part of their (somewhat) long term core, though.

Or Duchene, or Tank...

or EJ or JTC. They could have been WAY better than they were, but chose not to, for some reason.
None of those guys would have been as easy to trade as Palat. He was by far the best trade chip available in the expansion draft.

Gourde is signed long-term, so that limits the trade options. Duchene and Tank make too much money, which limits the trade options. EJ is injury-prone and overpaid, and JTC is a bottom 6 player making too much money. He only has value now after his playoff performance.

Edit: but I agree with the sentiment. What a bunch of idiots running that team.

Looking around Twitter, I just reminded myself, and now you, that the Kraken could have taken Palat and then traded him to the highest bidder.
I felt like they completely butchered the draft. Take some pieces you can trade for more picks and pick the guys you want from the NHL draft etc

Well, in hindsight I guess they did.

Not sure how Bruins can fire Cassidy. Not that he was great, but just crazy to see what happened to them and yet he gets all the blame.

That seems excessive.
79 points in 129 games with Columbus... or a ~50 point pace. Given the arbitration overhead that could give him as much as 5, I'd say both parties did well.

On the Cassidy firing... messages go stale and Boston needs a new one. Cassidy is a fantastic coach that'll find a job easily if he wants one for next season.

Apparently it was his fault the Bruins lost their 2nd line center and did literally NOTHING to replace him, and had an unreliable (albeit wholesome) goaltending tandem the entire season.

From what I understand sentiment toward Don Sweeney has been pretty tepid for a while now, but now the knives are coming out for franchise icon Cam Neely.

B's should seriously just tank it for one season, come back strong in 2023 if they can. Half the team will be on injured reserve to start the season anyway.

They also have the Hall factor. That guarantees Bedard in the lottery

Jesus...

It's one thing to send a player to the Olympics, but who the f*** cares about the Worlds!? I certainly wouldn't send any of my players.

pretty sure our guys used to go all the time when we weren't a playoff team. It's good experience for younger or B list players since it happens during the playoffs. Unfortunate injury for sure.

Jim Nill and Peter DeBoer...is a match made in heaven in regards to never learning from your mistakes lol.

Hockey just has some of the best names of any sport in the world. I was going through the WHL bantam draft and came across this piece of art...
