Jeez. Someone is embarrassing themself. The hockey world doesn't revolve around the WJCs.

I hope Lacombe and Thrun can push for next years team.
LaCombe (coming straight from Prep hockey) has been much more impressive than Johnson this year in the games I've seen. Think he's going to be a player. Ducks know how to pick em.

Player development isn't as rigid as you make it out to be. Here's an average stat: you posting 20 times a day. Maybe that should be cut down for reflection and actual research.

The guy's blowing smoke up Bonney's ass with bull**** player development claims.

Please for the love of God can the camp roster come out so we can talk about that

I’m so sorry that I exposed your prophet for his blatant dishonesty. Since you want to give me some advice, I’ll give you some. You shouldn’t worship strangers on the internet you’ve never met and you should also think for yourself.

Not that I am holding out any hope or, picking at your answer, just curious. But what PR spin ? The Devils aren’t going anywhere and Shero just sent his coach packing. How would a month away for the 10A hurt League perception of how the prospect is being developed or be a PR hazard ?

Hughes plays over 16 per game, he’s one of NJ’s most important players, he’s probably the main player they advertise to the fans as what’s going to turn around their franchise.

How do you then announce you’ve sent him to a junior hockey tournament for two weeks because you think it would help his development? It would undermine all you’ve been doing beforehand. And it would probably subject him to a lot of scrutiny. Who was the last 1OA to play at the WJC the season they were drafted 1OA? I can’t remember the last 1OA who had their rookie season in the NHL interrupted by the WJC or a demotion. If that happens to Hughes, he’s going to get a lot of scrutiny.

Who said it does? Maybe you shouldn’t comment on things you aren’t informed on.

I’ve said all young players, regardless of their WJC status or eligibility, shouldn’t be used for the garbage roles on an NHL team. If you read what I had to say, which I’m sure you didn’t, you’d know this.

The only people embarrassing themselves are the Flyers fans who want to be lazy and would rather watch their first round pick play garbage minutes in the NHL than tuning into their AHL team, if they so cared to watch him play. It’s a short-sided viewpoint.

And I think I’m going to start calling these fan-bases out after the fact. The Arizona fans were blatantly rude and then we now see Hayton was used to fill the 13th forward role. I was nice enough to not after the fact call them out for being wrong. But now I see that most of you are only here to pick fights and defend your management. I’ll call these fan bases out after the fact. You don’t actually care about the development of the player.

This is spot on. Guy who wrote that article just wanted views and nothing else. Hughes is not going to play in WJC.

I saw on twitter that Mastrosimone might make this team. I figured he would have a good chance next year but thought this year was ambitious, especially because he didnt play for the USNTDP. Any chance he makes it as an energy line guy?

Do you have a meltdown in every thread?

You can keep repeating yourself that he's in a garbage role, but that doesn't make it anymore accurate. And trust me, I'd be the first to call the coach and the GM out on it. So if you think I am here to defend management, I'm sure there are plenty of Flyers fans that will tell you that ain't my style. And it's cute that you paint Flyers fans as lazy and unwilling to watch the AHL team. The Flyers board is one of the more knowledgeable boards on here when it comes to prospects and watching leagues outside of the NHL so take a step down from your high horse bud.

The Flyers are on a roll. Farabee is starting to get on a roll. And Michael Raffl is now out for a month too. Hold on to your receipt if it makes you feel better, but most people can read in between the lines.

Playing on the 3rd line with Kevin Hayes and Scott Laughton, on a winning team, scoring 5 points in the last 6 games, and passing the eye test with flying colors is playing garbage minutes and hurting his development? WTF are you talking about, the last two pages of this thread have been filled with complete nonsense from you.

AV came out today and said he will probably start getting PK time with Raffl going to LTIR, something he has the skillset to really excel in.

The Devils don’t draw well to begin with and NJ is not going to be good for quite some time. I don’t think two weeks playing for team USA away from a terrible team would hurt any prospects development.

GM probably could handle the scrutiny but have to agree that Hughes doesn’t need to deal with the media, that’s down on the Devils right now.

I say this every year: I root for guys to not be released. Obviously it speaks well if USA Hockey when we have guys who the league won’t release. But also I get a lot of pleasure in thinking we’re gonna win this without Hughes, Farabee, etc....

I hate when Canada has 5 guys not playing and we have zero. Feels like a no win situation.

Same reason I like the setup for Hlinka...underdog status is fun.

I mean with the Hlinka you guys just choose not to send your best no? Or is there a reason your best players aren't going that can't be controlled?

Yes, we choose not to send our best. I enjoy it cuz I think of it as a measuring stick. If our “B’s” can compete, I feel good about it

I believe the last first overall pick to play at the WJCs following his draft was Yakupov, who played in the KHL during the lockout. Before that, it was probably Erik Johnson, who played one season of college hockey following his draft.

I can't remember the last time a first overall selection had his NHL season interrupted by going to the WJCs, either.

RNH played because of the lockout too.

Nick Robertson also had 1g,1a last night in his return from his broken finger.

That kid was tearing it up in the OHL before he broke his finger. He was - at times - dominant at the WJSS with his hustle, stickhandling, puck control, vision and release, showing good chemistry w/ both Zegras (during USA White games) and Turcotte (full team games). Based on projected rosters, lines I've seen around twitter/internet, etc, I feel that this is a kid that is being somewhat overlooked by the masses (except Leafs fans) and he's shown he deserves a top 6 role on the team (especially if Farabee is unavailable) while also manning the half-wall on the PP.

Between him, Caufield, Wahlstrom and Kaliyev, this team has some guys who can really shoot the puck...

Roster comes out tomorrow. Since he very well might not be on the roster, here’s what Bode Wilde has done since returning from injury. 5 games, 0 points. Looks like a rough start to things in the AHL. He’s back to playing, at least.

I still think they should bring him to the camp and see what he can do from there.

They already got an extended look at him at the WJSS where he was objectively underwhelming. Considering he has no season resume to combat that performance, I just don't see what he would be able to do in a limited selection camp to jump ahead of his competition (Regula, Johnson, Jones, Krygier, Harris, Emberson, etc.)
