Assuming Schneider was the guy they really wanted, it was a nice move only having to move three spots. Means they had their targeting sharp and didn’t overpay.

I really don’t see the offense. I’ll look again after the 1st round, but man I really see McIlrath. Hope I am wrong but I am going to need to be won over. Which is fine.

I think you’re off here, but even if you are right, McIlrath at 19OA would have been a fine pick. McIlrath at 10OA with players like Tarasenko and Fowler on the board was just dumb from the get go.

Picking Schneider at 10OA over Perfetti and Lundell would have been terrible. At 19 with that board - great.

You mean at the position they have to trade Dangelo away from to make room for lunqvist behind Fox and Trouba for the next 7 years? Sweet.

A unicorn. Has size decent + speed skating.
Tufness on Rangers: Kreider, Lemieux, potentially Kakko. legit but lesser extent Trouba and Lindgren. Possibly also Gauthier. They need a guy who exerts muscle where needed to clear crease, give punishing checks.

if we don't do a deal around chytil + Trouba + for Seider +, even as a keeper, Trouba has 6 yrs remaining but only couple are are NMC/NTC. 2, maybe 3 yrs we can trade this guy like half the league.

So going bpa, this was good move, this guy is ready sooner than later, fine, if this guy gells for 2ish yrs, fine.

I said if we could not move up to Sanderson, which was likely unreal fantasy, then wanted moderate pay to move up for Dylan Holloway. But he was gone earlier side of his range,

Lapierre obv was huge risk. multiple documented concussions.
unfortunate, bc he will be a dominate addition based on unreal skill. but whether it is 3 months or 3 years, one bad hit and this guy could be toast.

Zary looked interesting but would rather have guy we took and give up a 3rd than Zary and keep the 3rd.
Zary looks good but RD more difficult to fill.

So now we padded an already deep right side D and effectively traded a very competent young LD to do so. Makes the Skjei trade seem dumb.

We are stockpiling talent. Not to mention I’d much rather have Schneider+cap space than Skjei...

I don’t think he handles the puck well and I don’t think he has a great shot. But for the board, I will give it another look. Obviously I am not rooting against the guy but need to see something I didn’t.

For what it's worth, he was a targeted player by the Rangers. They had him in the top four defenseman for the class.

Let me put it this way, if you can get a Trouba-like player at 19th overall, regardless of whether you think Trouba is overpaid or flawed, that's a real good pick.
