I just don’t love drafting a guy that if everything goes right in the next 3 years is playing 3rd pair.. you have to assume trouba and Fox are 1-2 on the right side for the next 5 years right?

Schneider will probably stay in junior for at least another year or two. He isn’t someone to pencil in on D until probably 2022 or 2023.

I like Schneider as a player. I like Schneider a lot if he’s NHL ready in 1-2 years. I’m okay with the idea of balancing the D more and not going with smaller puck movers. If that’s the case, package what it takes to land a 2C. Let Strome walk if you have to, package ADA/Nils/Krav and grab a legitimate 2C. Or top LD.

If both Nils and Schneider make a push, you can manage your cap by moving DeAngelo and Trouba. So you backfill. Didn't think Schneider would be on the board at 22.
Trouba has a NMC. He isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

The forseeable future on the right side looks to be Trouba, Fox, and Lundkvist. There’s no room for Schneider.

Trouba would need to move before that NTC kicks in (or has it already?). Otherwise we’ll be losing leverage with any partner and might have to retain salary. It’s a nasty contract unless he starts living up to his expectations — in which case there’s no reason to trade him in the first place.

Rangers trad up so Flyers don’t take Sanguinetti or whatever his name is. Flyers get a guy with a name they can’t pronounce. Rangers trade up so NJ doesn’t get Schneider. NJ takes a franchise guy with a funky name.

Bingo. This team will look VERY different 3 years from now. Projecting the current roster in their existing positions and abilities years down the road is both wrong and illogical.
