The more I research and look into things, while you almost can't go wrong, the more I think I would be upset/bothered if the Kings didn't take Byfield. I just feel he is a player that you cannot afford to pass up.
In just a few years (possibly even next year). The Kings could have a starting lineup with this down the middle:
Kopitar 6'4" 223lbs
Vilardi 6'3" 201lbs
Byfield 6'4" 214lbs
That's a lot of beef.
Who was last king to wear #55? Pavel Rosa?
Should have been Bernie Nicholls.Who was the last king to wear #55? Pavel Rosa?
. Seems like the perfect seamless transition from Kopitar. When it comes down to picking a center or a winger with near equal talent, you always go with the center. A great center is always hard to find.
What are the odds you guys don’t go QB at #2? Asking for a friend.
It's almost like Canadian media wants to push a Stutzle to LA narrative built upon tin foil so Byfield winds up staying in Canada or something.
Is there a backup plan already for the first pick if they cancel the season? I don't think I've seen it mentioned anywhere.
Los Angeles Kings
Worst draft: 2002
The Kings’ draft class of 2016 stands out for its complete lack of picks (four in total), which set them up for failure, but it’s hard to knock their scouting group for coming up a bit short, especially when Kale Clague could still become an everyday NHLer. Their class of 2002 is a different story. None of the Kings’ 11 picks played more than 250 games. That included taking Lokomotiv Yaroslavl’s Denis Grebeshkov 18th overall, the fourth-ranked European skater by NHL Central Scouting. And though Grebeshkov didn’t have the kind of career you’d hope for out of a top pick, he did briefly have a resurgence in Edmonton which included a 39-point season on the Oilers back end. All told, though, it wasn’t the Grebeshkov pick that undid the Kings’ 2002 class. The players who followed, with the exception of Alex Steen and Cam Ward, didn’t go on to spectacular NHL careers, either. Grebeshkov spent just a couple of seasons in the Kings organization before being dealt to the Islanders in 2006. The Kings missed elsewhere too, including on second-round pick Sergei Anshakov, who never came to North American and was picked a handful of spots above Duncan Keith, Matt Stajan and Jiri Hudler.
I give it 65% we draft Byfield, 35% we draft Stutzle
Yeah but Anshutz is German, so naturally The Kings are going to invade Poland. The ridiculous part of that radio segment was trying to weave that thread about ownership having ANYTHING to do with who the Kings draft. Are you kidding me? I doubt ownership could pick any of these prospects out of a lineup let alone having seen even a millisecond of highlight game tape. C'mon now. There's a lot of wishful thinking in that speculation. Kings may very well draft Stutzle but probably for none of the reasons mentioned. Only that Yannetti and team think he's the better prospect.
